Out of europe I adored Turkey, Italy vence and flourence, rome not so much, France (Paris) I could go on and on and on...

Funny I adore Rome, liked Venice, and was underwhelmed by Turkey and Florence - it's wonderful how different we all are. 

I suppose it depends how long you have to plan.  Problems with the volcano could go on for months (or just days) so Europe could be a problem but if you're planning on going next year it would be lovely.

Good luck with whatever you decide and make sure you get good insurance - my daughter says I worry too much - I'm sure you'll agree.
