The Weekend Edition presents Ghosts in the OrchestraQueensland Symphony Orchestra is set to feature Ghosts in the Orchestra, an innovative new work with The Australian Voices and composed by artistic director Gordon Hamilton, one of Australia’s most exciting young composers.
The daring work removes the boundaries between singers and musicians, where individual choristers – the ghosts – will scatter throughout the orchestra in a bold contemplation of freedom of speech. The singers will influence the music performed by the orchestra, with the musicians unrolling the sung instructions into symphonic gestures. This dramatic performance will even question the role of the composer as the singers encourage the musicians to rebel from the notes on the page.
Ghosts in the Orchestra, proudly presented by Egon Zehnder, also aims to cross the boundaries between audience, performer and technology by allowing spectators to use their mobile phones during the concert – the ‘ghosts’ cheekily encouraging everyone to take a selfie and post to Twitter with the hashtag #ghostorch.
The concert will also feature En Saga by Sibelius and Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz conducted by Benjamin Shwartz.
