This is a cute little sewing kit perfect for children 8+ to learn how to sew. Anything animal related is a huge hit in our house with Miss 8. Allowing children to create their own rescue pet is a lovely idea ….. they even get to name their pet, create a clip on dog collar tag and an adoption certificate.

Included were two pink plastic sewing needles. Oh my gosh these were fantastic…. strong enough that they wouldn’t snap, but safe enough for little hands. The felt pieces were pre-cut and had holes pre-punched as well. They were perfect for learning to stitch as you could easily line up all the holes. Everything we needed was included in the kit, apart from a pair of scissors needed to cut the thread.
Miss 8 loved this kit, she couldn’t wait to open the box. She easily followed the instructions, lined it all up and sewed the straight sections. She just had trouble with knotting it off and connecting all the body pieces. She got a little frustrated when she mucked a few of the stitches up at the start, but I showed her how it could be easily fixed and by the end of it she definitely had more patience.

I think the pre-cut felt and pre-punched holes made a huge difference to the success of this project, it’s perfect to learn how to sew properly. Miss 8 has always been fascinated with my sewing machine, fabric and button collection, so this ‘My Studio Girl’ kit was perfect as an introduction into the sewing world.
Miss 8 named her rescue Dalmatian ‘Felicity’ and her puppy dog now takes pride of place in her bedroom.
