Tasmania's East Coast is not just about long white beaches and sparkling clear waters, you can also pick up some fantastic wines as well as delicious berries and of course, its famous seafood.
Now there's a new gourmet taste which will have you dreaming of fresh, salty sea air. From the crystal clear waters and packing an incredible flavour comes Tasman Sea Salt, adding to the bounty of produce of this amazing coastline.

You'd have to say that Alice Laing and Chris Manson's salt works has one of the most beautiful views in the world across the clean, nutrient rich waters from which they create their Tasman Sea Salt with its distinctive taste.
Their setup at Mayfield is close to where salt was produced for a short time over 180 years ago and whilst Chris and Alice's method for getting the salt flakes is still as simple, the technology behind the production process is far more efficient and environmentally friendly!
Chefs at renowned Tasmanian restaurants Stillwater and Ethos have taken a liking to Tasman Sea Salt and statewide distribution is growing steadily but it may be a while before it's widely available at interstate retail outlets so this is your chance to be well ahead!
Down the road in Orford is Darlington Vineyard again in a stunning setting with views across to Maria Island. Each vine in this boutique vineyard is given personal attention by owners, Paul and Louise Stranan and the hard work reflects in the fine pinot noir, sauvignon blanc, riesling and chardonnay wines. Also very popular is their TGR Riesling (Ed: for good reason!)
Heading north from Hobart, Darlington marks the first of the coastal vineyards and the cellar door with its lovely outlook and warm welcome makes a great first stop on your East Coast Drive. (Incidentally, Australian Traveller Magazine voted the East Coast Drive Number 2 out of 100 in the country!)
