-photography competition-

Help us celebrate the iconic species of the Port Curtis region by entering your best photo of the region's natural environment in the Big6 Nature Pix photography competition.

The Big6 is an education and awareness program that the Gladstone Ports Corporation are creating, which is targeted at improving the community awareness of the marine megafauna  and their habitats in the Greater Gladstone Region.

The Big6 key marine species in the region are Turtles, Fish, Crustaceans, Dugongs, Shorebirds and Cetaceans.

By submitting your original Gladstone Greater Region Nature photo, you'll not only help raise awareness about these important animals and their habitats, you'll also be in the running to win over $4,000 in prizes.

Competition closes at 5pm AEST

Terms & Conditions


Terms and Conditions: The Observer – Gladstone’s BIG 6 Nature Pictures Photography Competition


By entering this competition, Contestants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. The Promoter may at its discretion refuse to award any prize to any entrant who fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions. All relevant competition instructions on the Promoter’s website form part of these Terms and Conditions.


1.     Method of entry:  The Observer is giving amateur photographers the opportunity to be part of the Gladstone’s Big 6 Photography Competition. To enter, Contestants must submit a photograph of Gladstone’s nature online.


 


Contestants must go online at: www.gladstoneobserver.com.au/big6naturepics and complete their personal details as requested and upload their photograph.


·         Entry is free.


·         Contestants must be an individual and not a company or organisation.


·         Contestants can enter more than once.


 


2.     Competition duration:  The competition commences at 12:00am Saturday May 30, 2015 and closes at 5:00pm on Wednesday June 27, 2015.  Entries received after the closure time will not be eligible.


 


3.     Photograph criteria:


 


·         Photographs are to be submitted via The Observer’s website within the Competition period.


·         Photo must be an original photograph.


·         Photo must be taken of Gladstone nature only.


·         The definition of “Gladstone Nature” for the purposes of this competition is flora and/or fauna in the Gladstone region, and the photo must show a clear link to Gladstone’s Big 6 and their natural habitats.


·         Photo may be either portrait or landscape format.


·         Photo must meet quality specifications – a JPG of at least 800kB.


·         Photo must be taken within the last twelve months prior to the competition closing date and may not previously have won an award in any photographic competition.


·         The photograph must not, at the discretion of the Promoter, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.


·         Images containing nudity, animal cruelty, sexualised images, harassment or other images deemed by law to be of an illicit or illegal nature will not be accepted.


·         The photo must be accompanied by a caption confirming the name of the photographer, age of photographer, date photo taken, the location and the name of the flora and/or fauna (if known) or a description of the photograph if it is a landscape.


·         The circumstances in which photographs are taken must not pose a risk to the safety of the photographer nor the surrounding flora and/or fauna.


·         Incomplete, inaccurate or duplicate entries will be deemed invalid.


·         All photographs submitted in the competition become the property of The Observer Gladstone.


 


4.     Judging Categories




There are 2 categories for photographs with 2 winners from each.


·         Junior Photographer: Junior winner and Junior Runner-up aged up to 16 years of age.


·         Senior Photographer: Senior winner and Senior Runner-up aged from 17 years of age.


 


The criteria used to judge the winners and runners-up from each category will be Creativity, Quality of Photography and significance to Gladstone Nature.


 


5.     Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the winners by way of a prize letter to claim the Billboard prizes from The Gladstone Ports Corporation.


 


1 Senior Winner:


·         One Gift Certificate to the Camera House for the value of $500.00 (inclusive of GST).


·         The photograph published as the Big 6 Nature Competition winner on a Gladstone Ports Corporation owned Billboard valued at $1800.00 (inclusive of GST).


1 Senior Runner-up:


·         One Gift Certificate to the Camera House to the value of $200.00 (inclusive of GST).


·         Their submitted photograph published


1 Junior Winner: The winner of this section can choose one of the following:


·         One (1) 16GB iPad Mini (WIFI Internet connection only) with a market value of $299.00 (inclusive of GST); or


·         One (1) GoPro Hero 3 White Edition with a retail market value of $298.00 (inclusive of GST);


Also included in the Junior Winner’s prize is:


·         One (1) photo on a Gladstone Ports Corporation Billboard valued at $1800.00 (inclusive of GST); and


·         One (1) Marine Experience DVD with a retail market value of $15.95 (inclusive of GST).


1 Junior Runner-up:


·         Nikon Coolpix S33 White Digital Compact Camera with a retail market value of $139.00 (inclusive of GST); and


·         The Port Curtis Marine Experience DVD with a retail value of $15.95 (inclusive of GST).


 


The total maximum value of all prizes for this competition is $4769.90 (inclusive of GST).




6.    Eligibility limitations:  Contestants under the age of 18 years require parent/guardian permission to enter.  The following persons are ineligible to enter:


(i) Employees of, or contractors to, the Promoter as far as they are directly associated with this competition;


(ii) The spouse, de facto spouse, parent, natural or adopted child, and sibling (whether natural or adopted by a parent), of such employees and contractors (whether or not they live in the same household);


iii) Contestants who have used or attempted to use any more than one name in order to qualify to win any contest run by the Promoter except in the case of a legal change of name. All Contestants acknowledge that even if the Promoter only learns of a person’s ineligibility after the Promoter has appeared to award the prize to the ineligible person, it may require the return of the prize or payment of its value to the Promoter to be dealt with as an unclaimed prize.


iv) Professional Photographers are not eligible to enter. A professional photographer is someone whose income or core part of business is based on photography.




7.    Draw and notification:  The judging for the images will be undertaken on June 30, 2015 at The Observer office at 11:00am and winners will be contacted immediately after the judging has been finalised. Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.  The winners will be published on July 1, 2015 in The Observer Public Notices page. All Contestants acknowledge that the Promoter has the right to publicise and publish his / her name, character and likeness.  All contest winners must avail themselves for a photo if required by the Promoter and acknowledge that the Promoter has the right to utilise publicity photos in any reasonable manner it sees fit without compensation to the Contestant.


 


8.    Prize collection:  Prizes must be claimed in person unless winner is otherwise advised and Government Photo ID will be required.  Contestants classified as Minors must be accompanied by a parent/guardian with Government Photo ID to collect the prize. A Release Form must be signed to indicate proper collection of the prize. All prizes, when specified must be picked up within 90 days of notification.  It is the sole responsibility of the winner to claim their prize.  All prizes that remain unclaimed 90 days after notification has been sent to the winner will be redrawn by random draw in an unclaimed prize draw.


 


 


 


9.      Use of Submitted Photographs:


·         The contestants agree that the Promoter (Gladstone Newspaper Co Pty Ltd) may use entries for any promotional, marketing and publicity purposes of the Promoter in any media without notice and without any fee paid to the contestants.


·         By submitting the photograph to the Promoter, you grant the Promoter and its subsidiaries, agents, employees a non-exclusive licence to exercise all rights in perpetuity throughout the world in a Photo and all other material provided by you to the Promoter at any time in whole or part to the public on any media platform and you grant to the Promoter all associated rights necessary to exercise these rights.


·         Without limitation, photos submitted may be published on The Observer website and Facebook page. Where a submitted photograph is published by The Observer, a photograph credit will be included.


·         Contestants acknowledge that the Promoter is under no obligation to exercise any of the rights granted to it by these Terms and Conditions.


 


10.  Promoter's limitation of liability: The Promoter is not responsible for the loss of prizes due to incorrect or imprecise delivery details provided by a winner.


The Promoter also takes no responsibility for prizes lost or stolen after they have been released for delivery via postage or courier.


The Promoter makes no representations or warranties as to the quality, suitability or merchantability of any of the goods/services offered as prizes. To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not liable for any loss suffered or sustained by any person and including, but not limited to consequential (including economic) loss by reason of any act or omission, deliberate or negligent, by the Promoter, or its servants or agents, in connection with the arrangement for supply, or the supply, of any goods or services by any person to the prize winner(s) and, where applicable, to any persons accompanying the winners.




11.  Entries and privacy:  All entries become and remain the property of the Promoter and its related parties, subject to the limits contained in the Privacy Statement and as set out in these terms and conditions. The Promoter and its related parties, also collect personal information in order to conduct the Promotion and may use and disclose such information in accordance with its privacy policy www.apnarm.com.au/privacy, including to sending ongoing information and promotional material about opportunities, services and products (relating to our business or a third party business) in which the Promoter believes you may be interested. To facilitate your participation, the Promoter may disclose your personal information to other companies associated with this promotion.
