Masterpieces from the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great is at the National Gallery of Victoria from 31 July to 8 November.

On display will be 400 works from artists such as Rembrandt, Rubens, Velázquez and Van Dyck.

The exhibition includes pieces depicting Catherine the Great, whose long reign as the Empress of Russia (1762-1796) remains characterised, as John Alexander wrote in Catherine The Great: Life and Legend, by “imperial splendour, military glory, political genius, territorial advance, and intellectual brilliance”. To celebrate the Winter Masterpieces Collection, RACV members can win a double pass to the exhibition ($52), a two-course lunch at Persimmon Restaurant ($110) and two catalogues of the event ($60). There are five prizes to be won.
