Win tickets to see Songs for the Fallen at Newcastle Civic Theatre

TOP SHOW: Catch Songs for the Fallen at Newcastle Civic Theatre on October 15.

ON January 15, 1847, Marie Duplessis - courtesan, party girl, liar and legend - got out of bed, put on a dress, ordered a bottle of champagne and sat alone in her Paris apartment to celebrate her birthday. She died 18 days later, aged 23.

Marie's life, from poverty to infamy in 19th century Paris, is chartered in Critical Stages' production Songs For the Fallen.

The thrilling musical-party tells the wild and hilarious tale of a woman who knew one thing: good girls do not make history.

Following previous hugely successful seasons in Sydney, Brisbane and New York that had critics and audiences raving, Songs For the Fallen will take to the Newcastle Civic Theatre stage for one night only, on Thursday, October 15.

Not only did Sheridan Harbridge win New York Musical Theatre Festival's 2015 most outstanding actress award for her portrayal of Marie, but Songs For the Fallen also won best show.

Songs For the Fallen contains adult themes, drug references, sexual references, partial nudity and coarse language.

Cost of tickets, available from civictheatrenewcastle.com.au or Ticketek, start at $45 for adults.

The Examiner has two double passes to give away to the October 15 show, which starts at 8pm.

To win, send your name and contact details in an email titled "Marie" to ewatts@fairfaxmedia.com.au. Winners will be notified by noon on Wednesday, October 14.
