Ticket Giveaway – Christian Petzold’s Phoenix

Critical acclaim for a film doesn’t come much higher than Christian Petzold’s new film Phoenix. From the film maker behind the 2012 German smash Barbara comes this new mystery that has stunned film festival audiences around the globe including this year’s Melbourne International Film Festival. To celebrate the release Madman Entertainment and The Lowdown Under are giving you the chance to win one of five double passes to see this extraordinary feature when it releases in selected cinemas from December 3, 2015. The critics are unanimous:

“It is at once an intimate portrayal of a woman rising from the ashes of her traumatic past, and a powerful allegory for the rebuilding of Germany.  On both levels it’s a resounding success.” – Richard Leathem, The Lowdown Under

“Phoenix mines a Hitchcockian vein, but it is Hoss’ sensitive performance and Petzold’s intelligently paced direction that makes this film shine.” – Josh Kupecki, Boston Chronicle

“Both performances are terrific in support of a screenplay rich in period detail and thematic texture, leading to a haunting final twist.” – Todd Jorgenson, Cinemalogue.com

Synopsis: June, 1945. Badly injured, her face destroyed, Auschwitz survivor Nelly returns to her hometown, Berlin. She’s accompanied by Lene, a Jewish Agency employee and Nelly’s friend from pre-war days. Having barely recovered from facial surgery, Nelly ignores Lene’s warnings and sets out to find her husband, Johnny – the love of her life who is convinced that his wife is dead. When Nelly finally tracks him down, he recognizes nothing but an unnerving resemblance and doesn’t believe it could really be her. Hoping to secure her family’s inheritance, Johnny suggests to Nelly that she take on the identity of his late wife.
