Pick your wine or food book for Christmas!
Seven great cookbooks and wine guides to choose from

Australian Wine Vintages 2016, 33rd Edition by Rob Geddes MWAustralia Cooks by Kelli BrettJeremy Oliver Wine Annual 2016 edition.James Halliday Wine Companion 2016 edition

The good old VisitVineyards prize shelf has surrendered up some great food and wine books for our annual Pick Your Book for Christmas promotion. Three of the best wine guides available join some new cookbooks and an old favourite or two. Wine or food – which will you choose?

Throughout the year we're lucky enough to review and promote a range of great wine and food books and occasionally the prize shelf squirrels some away until the end of the year when the season of gift-giving is approaching. It might be hard to choose but choose you must! Tell us which book you'd like to win and you'll go in the draw for that book making the odds of a happy win much better.

Here's a rundown on your choice of books:

Australia Cooks edited by Kelli Brett

This glorious cookbook is dedicated to the three crucial ingredients – people, place and produce – that make our food culture our very own. It's a collection of recipes from around Australia designed by locals and made with the produce found locally. Add in the stories and background information on the places and people and you have a treasure chest that every foodie will want.  Over 60 recipes come from home cooks but there are an additional 20 stories and recipes from chefs who have built their businesses on championing home-grown produce.

Turkish Meze by Sevtap Yuce

Sharing is the real essence of this book.  The author says 'meze' means: '...a way of living and eating, sharing all, including breakfast, lunch and dinner...'.  'It is personal, it is seasonal, it is flexible – it is the food that matches your choice of drink.' The book is broken down into dips, small dishes, dolmas, salads, vegetables, fish and seafood, meat, sweets and basics so something for every occasion! All are simple and straighforward and of course, each has its special Turkish flavours.

Halliday Wine Companion 2016 by James Halliday

This comprehensive guide has full tasting notes for 3,859 wines plus ratings, 'drink to' dates and prices on a further 2,629 wines. But it contains much more than that. This is what a previous VisitVineyard's winner of this book said:  Verdict – it’s wonderful. I am a simple wine drinker who had never seen the book before, though I had heard of it. I found the book full of interesting, fascinating,  helpful facts. I have spent hours reading it. I have learnt a lot and I know it will be a useful asset in future winery tours. "
