Each year when the Ekka rolls around, Brisbane gets a little excited – and not just about the public holiday. Ask any local what their favourite thing about the Ekka is and they’ll be quick to tell you the experience is not complete without an Ekka strawberry sundae.
Waiting all year to get your hands on the strawberry ice-cream goodness is painful, but the popular Ekka icon will make an early return this year.
From 5.45pm on Wednesday, April 12, King Street at the Brisbane Showgrounds in Bowen Hills will host an Ekka strawberry sundae pop-up event and unveil an installation that celebrates the iconic ice-cream.
Project Director for the Brisbane Showgrounds Andrew Hay says the inspiration for the Ekka strawberry sundae sign came from the nostalgia and family memories created by the Ekka.
“Placing the nostalgic strawberry sundae sign at the end of the Old Dairy Hall will definitely be a way for everyone to relive their experience with the strawberry sundae all year around,” he says.
For one night only, a pop-up stall at the intersection of King Street and Gregory Terrace will dish out 250 FREE Ekka strawberry sundaes.
There’s only one catch: you have to win passes to attend the pop-up event.
And you can enter right here! We have 10 double passes to the exclusive event at the Brisbane Showgrounds, so you can get your Ekka strawberry sundae fix before the rest of Brisbane this year.
