The Australian School of the Arts is going blonde for the 2018 Senior Sheldon College Musical with Legally Blonde, a musical described contemporary, high energy and focused on fun.

Legally Blonde’s fast-paced, unstoppable momentum is amplified by the youthful exuberance of its 95 student cast and band. They are ably supported by an additional 26 backstage crew and film and television students working behind the scenes to stage, light, sound engineer and film the show.

Ellen Warner in Year 11 plays the effervescent Elle Woods, a fashion savvy UCLA sorority girl, who finds her life turned upside down when she is dumped by her boyfriend Warner (played by Kyle Colburn, Year 12).

In an effort to prove to Warner that she is more than just some blonde sorority girl, Elle leaves her sorority sisters Margot (Isabella Kregar, Year 11), Serena (Lucy Martin, Year 12) and Pilar (Jasmine Renny, Year 12) and follows him to Harvard Law School.

Once there, she struggles to fit in and do well, but along the way she meets and befriends geeky genius Emmett (Jean-Luc Fuller, Year 11), hair stylist Paulette (Aisling O’Byrne, Year 12) and activist feminist Enid (Darcey Robertson, Year 11).

Ultimately Elle defies the expectations of the pompous, manipulative law professor, Callahan (Danyal Fayad, Year 11), using her knowledge of the law to successfully defend exercise queen Brooke Windham (April Beak, Year 11) in a murder trial.  With iconic songs like What You Want, Ireland and Whipped into Shape, Legally Blonde is an entertaining crowd-pleaser.

The show’s  six performances will be staged at the Redland Performing Arts Centre, enabling all cast, band and crew to experience the on-stage and behind-the-scenes workings of a professional production in an industry standard facility.

LEGALLY BLONDE: Kyle Colburn (Warner), Elle Warner (Elle Woods) and Jean-Luc Fuller (Emmett) in Legally Blonde, coming to RPAC in April.

Legally Blonde will be the Australian School of the Arts 19th musical and follows the success of Mary Poppins in 2017 and Adams Family in 2016.  Please note that Sheldon College does advise parental guidance to determine suitability for children.

Show dates are April 20 at 7.30pm, April 21 at 2pm and 7pm, April 27 at 7.30pm and April 28 at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets are $30/$25 for matinees and $35/$30 for evening shows. Book on 3829 8131 (weekdays 10am to 4pm and Saturdays 10am to 1pm) and through rpac.com.au Booking fees apply to online and phone purchases.
