To celebrate the return of this magical time of the year, we’re giving one lucky winner the chance to enjoy the best of the festival with the ultimate Brisbane Festival experience for you and a friend. Brisbane Festival showcases a range of talent spanning across many forms and genres – and this ticket gives you a little bit of everything on offer. From high drama to rowdy parties and even a spot of circus, you can get a taste of the full scope of the festival in these six hand-picked shows.
Start your festival journey with a grand theatrical experience courtesy of Alice Oswald’s Memorial, a production that gives life to each of the 215 soldiers named in Homer’s Iliad. Reflect on the horrors of conflict as Helen Morse brings impassioned life to Oswald’s words set to an otherworldly score by Golden Globe-nominee Jocelyn Pook (Eyes Wide Shut).
The next day, lighten the mood by donning your best DIY outfit to dumpster-dive into a world of queer decadence at the Heaps Gay Trash Palace. Let loose with rousing (and rowdy) performers, gaudy live acts and party-starting DJs. Recover from your wild night out by taking some time to be grateful at Leunig and Elixir’s Gratitude and Grief concert. Featuring a unique mix of spoken-word poetry, angelic vocals, sublime improvisation and live drawing by Leunig himself, this show is sure to leave you feeling lighter for the rest of the week.
The next week, be taken on a wild, tender and savage ride when the acrobats from Circa’s legendary ensemble thrill with the world premiere of new show En Masse. Presenting two visions of humanity at its extremes, the show is sure to take your breath away with its electrifying explosions of physicality and power. Once you have recovered from this moving performance, The Cat Empire’s firebrand trumplet-playing vocalist Harry James Angus will have you toe-tapping in the aisles with his dynamic new live project Struggle with Glory.
After three weeks of truly large celebrations, Brisbane Festival will draw to a close – and what better way to cap off your festival extravaganza than at the massive closing night party? The celebrations will bring together a killer line-up of Australian talent headlined by homegrown heavyweights Violent Soho, joined by rising superstars Meg Mac, Methyl Ethel and WAAX for a huge festival send-off.
