Win a Trip for Two to Mona for a Surreal and Spectacular Feast
The winner and a friend will receive flights to Hobart, accommodation at Mona and tickets to the Eat the Problem feast during Dark Mofo. But you’ll need to be quick – entries close on Thursday.

Kirsha Kaechele believes the answer to Australia’s invasive animal and plant problem lies in kitchens around the country. The artist and Mona curator has crafted a surreal, slightly gory cookbook she hopes will change the conversation around how we manage pests.

Eat the Problem is a collection of both real and surreal recipes – some accessible, some not so – from chefs including Heston Blumenthal, Shannon Bennett, Tetsuya Wakuda, David Moyle and Peter Gilmore, and artists such as Marina Abramović, Mike Parr and more. Think fox tikka masala, wild boar’s eye Bloody Mary, sweet and sour cane toad, and myna bird parfait.

But beyond practical applications, its 544 pages also contain scores of divisive artworks, each one a meditation on transformation, consumption or destruction. The arresting – and at times confronting – photography is led by Rémi Chauvin. On one page, a dead rabbit torn into pieces (organs included) is artfully arranged for a flat-lay. On another, an image of a salt-baked possum dish by Mona chef Vince Trim is unapologetically roadkill-esque.

The overall result is a challenging but beautiful tome of recipes organised by species and by colour; a rainbow of brutal, gory instructions and observations that took Kaechele five years to put together.

To coincide with the launch of the book, Mona is hosting a series of feasts. Diners will be seated at a giant glockenspiel and treated to nine courses made from invasive species prepared by Trim. Expect dishes incorporating wild deer, sea urchin and thistle, each one transformed into a monochromatic culinary delight, accompanied by unexpected performances and provocative artworks. Guests will also experience reflexology, massage and other healing treatments.

Now Broadsheet and Mona are giving you the chance to win a seat at that glockenspiel. The winner and a guest will receive return flights to Hobart from Melbourne or Sydney, tickets to the nine-course Eat the Problem grand feast on June 13 at Mona, an overnight stay at a Mona Pavilion, breakfast at The Source Restaurant and entry to the Mona museum.

Entries are open now and close on June 6. Enter below for your chance to win.*
