https://www.redlandcitybulletin.com.au/story/6330707/win-book-week-dress-up-competitionREDLAND school students have the opportunity to get a little more out Book Week this year, with the chance of winning a $50 book shop gift voucher.
Sponsored by Transdev, the state government public transport operator, the winner of the best Book Week costume will also get a $200 voucher for their school to extend library collections.
To enter, parents or carers need to submit a photo of the student in costume and submit it to the Redland City Bulletin via the link below.
The winner and their school will be notified by August 30.
This year the Children's Book Council Book Week theme is "Reading is my Secret Power".
Transdev head of business operations Tony Ralph said inspiration for the competition came via feedback from bus drivers who last year reported how much fun it was to see the creative costumes worn by school students on their buses.
Transdev Queensland operates public transport on behalf of Translink and the government. It provides bus services to about 2.6 million people - including a lot of kids - each year in the Redlands and Brisbane.
"We believe that reading does indeed give children power, to change the world with knowledge and imagination and it can also make trips on the bus even more enjoyable," Mr Ralph said.
"We want to support this in our community."
The competition will be judged by Mr Ralph and a Redland City Bulletin representative.
Book Week runs from August 17 to 23.
Entries must be submitted by 11.59pm on Friday, August 23.
The winner will be notified in person and the results published online after Book Week ends. We may also do a photo and story on the winner for the Redland City Bulletin.
We may also publish a gallery of some photos submitted as entries.
ENTRIES MUST INCLUDE THE CHILD'S NAME, AGE, SCHOOL YEAR LEVEL, PARENT OR CARER'S NAME AND THE SCHOOL ATTENDED BY THE CHILD.
