GIVEAWAY! Thrillers mixed with romance

Here at Newcastle Weekly, we receive all kinds of goodies from PR agencies, publicists and businesses.

This week, we’ve put together a great prize pack containing four books, valued at well more than $120, for one lucky reader to win.

The book bundle includes Miss Burma by Charmaine Craig; In Darkness Visible by Tony Jones; The Passage of Love by Alex Miller; and Scrublands by Chris Hammer.

Miss Burma is a captivating portrait of how modern Burma came to be and of the ordinary people swept up in the struggle of self-determination and freedom. It is based on the story of the author’s mother and grandparents.

In Darkness Visible has been described as intriguing, gripping, and believable. In a dangerous pursuit of justice and revenge, navigating the murky world of national and international secret agencies and those who would still be warlords, freelance journalist Anna Rosen fights for what she believes in and for those she loves.

The Passage of Love follows the story of a husband and wife, whose lives are laid bare in their passionate struggle to engage with their individual creativity.

In Scrublands, an isolated country town that has been brought to its knees by endless drought sees a charismatic and dedicated young priest calmly open fire on his congregation, killing five parishioners before being shot to death himself.

A year later, troubled journalist Martin Scarsden arrives in the town to write a feature on the anniversary of the tragedy. But the stories he hears from the locals about the priest and the incidents leading up to the shooting don’t fit with the accepted version of events his own newspaper reported in an award-winning investigation.
