I just want to ask members not to get carried away with Avatars and Signatures.
Some of the pages are over 600Kb in size because of the extra images.
600K is FAR TOO MUCH for people that are using a normal modem to view the website. The original permissible size for Avatars and signatures was 13k (13,000 bytes), we've increased this to 30k (30,000 bytes) - please keep them below that size.
Some of us with an ADSL or Cable connections can remember how slow and frustrating a modem connection is, so please keep the 'little' people in mind.
Thanks.

Don't forget those signatures too people, while it's lovely to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, or whatever with lovely animated gifs and pictures, please, keep it to a post and not in your signature, these have to load up for each post you make in each thread.  Even though I'm on broadband, I can tell the threads that have particular members posts in them by how long the thread takes to load for me. Smile

Hey Peoples,
could we all try to post up some terms and conditions when we post a comp up? i know it can take a bit of time to find them but sometimes its easier when your already there rather than someone having to do it later Very Happy and if we could all try and read them a bit more often that'd be great too so we all know what we are in for and what needs to be done for each different comp Razz

Also just a reminder to included the closing date when posting up a comp. You can do it directly when adding a comp through the "Post Event" function OR once you've actually posted the comp in the appropriate section, re-visit the post and scroll to the bottom and click the "Link to Calendar" button.

Cheers. Smile

Just a friendly reminder that when you post a new competition please use the "Post a Competition" button on the left which will allow you to enter a closing date so that it appears in the calendar. This helps the forum stay tidy as they mod's will lock and move the competition to "closed competitions" when expired which also makes it easy for you to find current competitions.

If you wish to post a new topic rather than a competition then please use the button (found on top of the page in each section) I have noticed that some of the general comment posts have been created using the "Post a Competition" button which will by default put today's date which in turn appears in the calendar. It is not so much the problem of it appearing there but the problem of the posts that appear in the calendar for that day will be locked and moved to "closed competitions" after midnight resulting in your post being locked and moved.

Don't worry too much if you do it by accident, just let one of the moderators know and we will be only to happy to help you out. Smile

just a note. If you are adding a competition with no end date you need to go to 'comps with no close date' and post a new topic.  If an end date goes on the site later you can link it to the calendar later.

Members, if you are using a picture linked to another website for your avatar, in your posts or in your signature - such as a ticker, please ensure that the link actually works and it works all the time.

If the remote site is not available and the picture can not be displayed, it makes it look that there is a problem with the Comping Club website because the viewer's browser sits there waiting to display something it can't find that's on another website.

Any pictures directly linked to other sites that make the website seem slow to others because a link can not be found or their server is down, will be removed.
This goes for pictures in posts, avatars and signatures.

It's understandable that a member may not be aware that their link is causing trouble to others, so if this happens to you, and you find that your link has been removed, please don't take it personally.

Dear members

While you may think you are doing us a favour by letting us know a comp has closed, it in fact makes things a bit harder because it gives us more posts to read through.

If it really irks you to see an open comp that should be closed, then pm one of us and we will note it.

We have set procedures that we go through with all the different areas of the forum, and we close the comps in a particular order.

Please lovely members don't waste your precious comping time by notifying us in competition threads.

Cheers and happy comping ...

Lots of love

We at ACC do not conduct the competition, we only supply the information and sometimes assist each other with answers etc. If you are unsure about how this all works, sit back watch, join in and ask questions....we are all here to help each other, no matter what the question is just ask...Someone will come to your aid...Very Happy

To enter the competitions you see talked about on the Forum you need to enter via the Web Site that is comducting the competition, purchase the products that may be needed and so on....

We should also keep in mind that the World Wide Web is not always a friendly place to roam around in, as there are some not so nice creeps out there....

Using 'usernames' avoiids so of the traps that these creeps can pray upon to locate people and then cause you or others no end of trouble.

I am not saying, for a second that we have these types of people on our forum, I am only making the point that dislaying your personal information can be a dangerous thing.

Please enjoy your visits......

Some ticker sites won't work on this website.
Please see my post above (Friday 07 July 2006).
I am sorry that this may upset a few members because most of the tickers are pregnancy countdown timers, but because the sites are slow to load, members are having problems accessing this website when they come across a post containing a link from another site.
When a ban is placed on a link to a remote site, it is a global ban and applies to every post on this website. Without visiting each post, it is impossible to determine how many posts or how many members have been affected by the ban.
As I said earlier, if you find that your link has been removed or doesn't work, please don't take it personally.

If you have a moving avatar (a .gif file ) that is too large and upload it to our server it will not move anymore.
This is because the server will convert your moving .gif file to a .png file and .png files do not move.

If you have this problem please use the "I have my own pic:" setting and provide the link to your avatar.
(ex: http://www.mypage.com/mypic.gif)

I think the error you are getting may be the because it's too wide or high rather than size in kb.
I've set the new maximum to -

Maximum width : 240px
Maximum height : 360px

If the size of avatars members are uploading starts to impact on the server I'll reduce the limits.
Give it another go.

It's just your local browser cache.
Hold the Left Shift (or Ctrl) key down while you click on Refresh in IE - it should refresh all the items on the page you are looking at.

Some members have been uploading very large avatars which take ages to load.
Please keep your avatars small in physical size (around 120px by 180px) and small in terms of file size (around 30,000 bytes)

If you want to resize your picture and haven't got a program to do it with, there are lots of free on-line image resizing services.

Here's one you can try:  http://mypictr.com/

If any member is found to be using an avatar that's too large (in terms of physical size or file size) it will be replaced with the standard 'No Avatar" image without notice.

Go for it, give it a tweet!
