Purchase a specially marked copy of Night Street or Utopian Man, the co-winners of The Australian/Vogel Literary Award, keep your receipt and sticker and enter the competition here before 30 November 2010, and you could win $3,000 towards a manuscript assessment or writing course of your choice. The competition The prize will be awarded to the entrant who writes the best blurb for their book in 25 words or less. The prize Valued at $3,000, the winning entrant will receive a manuscript assessment and/or writing course(s) of their choice - up to a maxmium value of $3,000 (inclusive of GST). NB: You must retain your original proof of purchase (receipt) and sticker which will need to be produced if you win. Only one entry per purchase is allowed. The competition closes 30 November 2010. The winning entries will be notified in writing and by phone and be announced online here on 10 December 2010. The winners must produce their original proof of purchase (receipt itemising the book) PLUS the WIN $3,000 towards a manuscript assessment of writing course from the book cover to be eligible to claim the prize. Information on how to enter and the prize form part of these Conditions of Entry. 2. The Promoter is Allen & Unwin Pty Ltd (A.B.N 79 003 994 278) of 83 Alexander Street, Crows Nest, NSW 2065. 3. A purchase of Utopian Man by Lisa Lang or Night Street by Kristel Thornell during the competition period entitles a person to enter the ‘Win $3,000 towards a manuscript assessment and/or writing course of their choice’ competition. Entry is open to Australian residents only. Employees of Allen & Unwin Pty Ltd, anyone else connected to Allen & Unwin, and their immediate families are ineligible to enter. Eligible people (Entrants) who enter online at www.allenandunwin.com/competitions in accordance with these Conditions of Entry will be eligible to win. One (1) Entrant will be selected as the winner. 4. To enter, a person must complete the ‘Win a manuscript assessment and/or writing course of your choice to the value of $3,000’ online entry form in full on the Allen and Unwin website www.allenandunwin.com/competitions during the competition period and retain their original proof of purchase (receipt) which will need to be produced by the winner. Only one (1) entry per purchase is allowed. 5. The entry submitted will be taken as the Entrant’s acceptance of assigning all rights and interests including but not limited to copyright and all other intellectual property rights of the Entrant’s to Allen & Unwin. Allen & Unwin reserves the right to edit or alter the Entrant’s submission. 6. The prize is to a maximum value of $3,000 (Australian Dollars) inclusive of GST towards (a) manuscript assessment and/or (b) a writing course(s) as nominated by the winner. 7. The total prize (a) and/or (b) is to be booked through Allen & Unwin and the booking must be made by 31 May 2011. 8. No portion of the prize is redeemable for cash. Any unused portion of the $3,000 prize will be deemed forfeited by the winner. 9. Prize is subject to availability of winners nominated courses. No cancellations, changes or refunds are available once the courses/manuscript assessment is booked. The prize is neither transferable nor redeemable for cash. Redemption of the prize is subject to any and all conditions specified by Allen & Unwin at the time of awarding the prize. 10. The prize will be awarded to the entrant who, in the opinion of the judges, provides the best blurb for their book in 25 words or less. 11. Competition commences 00:01 (AEST) on 25/08/2010. Entries close 5.00pm (AEST) on 30/11/2010 (the Competition period). Any entry received after that date will be ineligible. Entry by any person will be taken as acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. There will be one prize draw which will be conducted at 10.00am (AEST) on 10/12/2010 at the Promoter’s office. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 12. The winning entry will be notified in writing and by phone and be announced online on www.allenandunwin.com/competitions on the 15/12/2010. 13. The winner must produce their original proof of purchase (receipt itemising the Utopian Man or Night Street to be eligible to claim the prize. If the winner fails to produce their original proof of purchase they forfeit the prize. 14. If the winner of a prize is under the age of 18 years, the prize will be awarded to the winner's nominated parent or guardian. 15. The Promoter shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for personal injury which is suffered or sustained, as a result of taking the prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law. 16. Allen & Unwin will not accept responsibility for late entries, ailed, partial or garbled computer transmissions, or for technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to electronic malfunction or damage of any network, hardware or software. Entries that are forged, incomplete, illegible or do not comply with the terms and conditions will be deemed invalid. If for any reason this Competition is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures, or other causes that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Competition, Allen & Unwin reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this Competition. No responsibility is assumed for: any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alteration of, entries; or any problems or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail or electronic entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to Entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials from this Competition. In the event of a dispute over an electronic entry, prize will be awarded to the name on the Entry Form and Release, not the owner of the e-mail account. 17. Allen & Unwin may conduct such further judging as is necessary on 15 January 2011 in order to distribute any prize unclaimed by that date, or if the original winner is deemed ineligible. If a re-draw is required, the winner will be notified by phone or mail. 18. The Promoter collects entrant’s personal information in order to conduct the promotion.
