Print Email Share Singer/songwriter Peter Combe is a familiar name and face to anyone who grew up in the ‘80s. He enjoyed a string of hit albums for kids, including Toffee Apple, Newspaper Mama, Spaghetti Bolognaise and Juicy Juicy Green Grass, precursing the Wiggles/Hi 5 -led marketing phenomenon that is kids entertainment today. Peter has enjoyed a resurgence in his career over the past few years, performing his intelligent and hilarious music to the now grown-up kids who formed his fanbase decades ago. The word on the streets is his live shows are the most fun you've had since you last hit the playground. I asked Peter a few questions via email. Max Olijnyk: You now seem to have two very distinct audiences - the kids of the ‘80s and the kids of today. Do you tailor your sets to suit each group, or is it pretty much just the timeslot that differs? Peter Combe: Yes it is pretty much the timeslot that differs. The 18+ audiences basically want to hear songs from four albums - Toffee Apple, Newspaper Mama, Spaghetti Bolognaise and Chopsticks. I do some new songs in the matinees but... a healthy serve of the old favourites as well, because the parents, who want their children to hear what they grew up on, are only four to five years older than the young adults who come to the 18+ shows! It's quite wonderful really. MO: What got you into making music for kids as opposed to your more adult-oriented folky stuff? Read the rest here...
