BRITAIN AT WAR

Britain, that tiny island in the middle of a sea of trouble, stood mighty during the hardship and privations of world war two. Something that is superbly revealed in the brilliant three disc set Britain At War which is released on DVD this month. To celebrate its release we have four copies to give away!

Where Britain At War scores so highly is with its first hand accounts from those who were there - veterans from the navy, army and airforce as well as civilians who had to deal with not only the constant bombardment of the blitz but also the harsh realities of food rationing and the feeling of being cut off from the rest of the world.

The ten part series is a brilliant insight into the social and military history of Great Britain during World War II.

Our competition runs until December 31, 2010. To be in with a chance to win one of five copies of Identity Season One all you have to do is tell us the date that the second world war officially started for Great Britain? Also don't forget about our rather splendid daily newsletter. If you haven't signed up for this yet then what are you waiting for, a daily hit of all the latest stories, comps, reviews, features and news happening in the world of Memorable TV.

Entries must be sent to Comps and must be titled "Britain At War". Good Luck! - Email to: competition@memorabletv.com

On September 3, 1939

Declarations of War

On September 1, 1939, the beginning of the German attack, Great Britain and France sent Adolf Hitler an ultimatum - either withdraw German forces from Poland or Great Britain and France would go to war against Germany.

On September 3, with Germany's forces penetrating deeper into Poland, Great Britain and France both declared war on Germany.

World War II had begun.
