THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT.

The theme of this film is one that many of you may be uncomfortable with.

It  is a portrait of a modern family, Nic and Jules are two lesbians. They  have two  teenage children  Joni and Laser,  conceived by a sperm donor.
As  Joni now 18,  prepares to leave for college, Laser  her younger brother presses her to help him find their biological father. Against  her better judgement Joni manages to make  contact   with their “bio dad” who turns out to be a easy-going restaurateur.
As Paul comes into the lives of this family, an unexpected new chapter begins for this group as family ties are re-defined.
It is funny and touching, but quite emotionally poignant.
The actors are excellent. Annette Bening, Julianne Moore, Mia Wasilowska ( Alice in Wonderland) and Josh Hutcherson ( Journey to the Centre of the Earth).
Beware there are a number of unexpected sex scenes in this film.

FOUR LIONS

Four Lions tells the story of a group of British Jihad suicide bombers who push their dreams of glory to breaking point.
They keep  on thinking of various methods of  how, and when, they will carry out their planned bombings, but each time it all comes unstuck, because basically, they are just stupid .
This is a very funny film, that I would call black humour, and portrays these four young men as not alien or evil,  but  just human beings that are so full of the idea of the glory that will come to them by carrying out these bombings, that they fail every time to think their plans through carefully.
This may be a somewhat provocative film, but it is truthful and very funny.
