When Frances Marion met Mary Pickford in 1915, the two women shook hands and Mary, smiling sweetly said, "I think we are going to be friends." Frances, whom Mary called, "the pillar of my career", was the most successful screenwriter of her day. http://www.mybestgirl27.com/Filmography Q 2: Barton Fink Barton Fink (John Turturro) is a New York playwright lured to Hollywood to work as a screenwriter. It doesn't take long for Barton's life to erupt in complete chaos. His studio boss orders the serious-minded Barton to write a low budget wrestling movie. http://www.amazon.com/Barton-Fink-John-Turturro/dp/B00008RH3J Q 3: L.Q. Jones; Birth Name: Justice Ellis McQueen Jr http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0428618/bio Q 5: The Big Sleep "Such a lot of guns around town and so few brains!" http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Humphrey_Bogart Q 6: Henry Brandon (born Heinrich von Kleinbach); 3 movies: Comanche; The Searchers; Two Rode Together Henry Brandon (June 8, 1912 – February 15, 1990) was an American character actor... Born Heinrich von Kleinbach in Berlin, Germany, his parents emigrated to the United States while he was still an infant... His most famous acting roles were as "Chief Cicatrice" (Scar) in John Ford's The Searchers in 1956 and "Chief Quanah Parker" in Ford's Two Rode Together in 1961 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Brandon_%28actor%29 This was a bad year for Henry Brandon as a Comanche. He meets a no good end here and in The Searchers in the same year. And ironically in Two Rode Together, he got to play Quannah Parker for John Ford. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049086/usercomments Title: Re: STACK Quiz - January 2011 - Win $250 JB Hi-Fi Voucher - answer questions Post by: calpot on Wednesday 05 January 2011, 11:06:39 pm 9. Elia Kazan
FROM WIKIPEDIA Boomerang! is a 1947 film based on the true story of a vagrant who was accused of murder, only to be found innocent through the efforts of the prosecutor. The film was directed by Elia Kazan, based on a story (written by Fulton Oursler, credited as "Anthony Abbot") in Reader's Digest and was shot largely in Stamford, Connecticut after Kazan was denied permission to film in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where the actual events occurred.[1] This semidocumentary also contains voice-overs by Reed Hadley. The film was entered into the 1947 Cannes Film Festival. Great work - amazingly quick. I have a slightly different answer for no. 7 though: What do you think? http://www.filmsite.org/bestactor.html Peter Sellers is the only actor to be nominated (as Best Actor) for playing three entirely-different roles in the same film, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - as Captain Lionel Mandrake, President Merkin Muffley, and Dr. Strangelove. Actors Who Won An Oscar for a Dual Role: Fredric March, Best Actor winner for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931/32): Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Laurence Olivier, Best Actor winner for Hamlet (1948, UK): Hamlet and the Voice of the Ghost (uncredited) Lee Marvin, Best Actor winner for Cat Ballou (1965): Tim Strawn and Kid Shelleen Title: Re: STACK Quiz - January 2011 - Win $250 JB Hi-Fi Voucher - answer questions Post by: JANEY G on Thursday 06 January 2011, 11:34:50 am Anyone no the answer to question 10 ...please

Title: Re: STACK Quiz - January 2011 - Win $250 JB Hi-Fi Voucher - answer questions Post by: grizzly1 on Thursday 06 January 2011, 12:41:42 pm Calpot I'd be more inclined to go with Nicolas Cage (Adaptation) rather than Laurence Olivier (Hamlet) considering the Ghost's voice is uncredited. I think it's the safer bet. :)

Title: Re: STACK Quiz - January 2011 - Win $250 JB Hi-Fi Voucher - answer questions Post by: helga22 on Thursday 06 January 2011, 10:43:11 pm Q 10: Could it be Lawrence of Arabia?
I haven't seen the movie; so I don't know how it ends ... Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence, CB, DSO (16 August 1888[5] – 19 May 1935), known professionally as T. E. Lawrence, was a British Army officer renowned especially for his liaison role during the Arab Revolt against Ottoman Turkish rule of 1916–18. At the age of 46, two months after leaving the service,[17] Lawrence was fatally injured in an accident on his Brough Superior SS100 motorcycle in Dorset, close to his cottage, Clouds Hill, near Wareham. A dip in the road obstructed his view of two boys on their bicycles; he swerved to avoid them, lost control and was thrown over the handlebars. He died six days later on 19 May 1935. The spot is marked by a small memorial at the side of the road. The circumstances of Lawrence's death had far-reaching consequences. One of the doctors attending him was the neurosurgeon Hugh Cairns. He was profoundly affected by the incident, and consequently began a long study of what he saw as the unnecessary loss of life by motorcycle dispatch riders through head injuries. His research led to the use of crash helmets by both military and civilian motorcyclists.[18] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_of_Arabia In 1935, Thomas Edward "T. E." Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) is speeding his motorcycle down a narrow English country lane. He crashes and dies to avoid hitting two boys who are cycling on the wrong side of the road. Later, at a memorial service held for Lawrence at St Paul's Cathedral, reporters try to gain insights into this remarkable, enigmatic man from people who knew him, with little success.... The Arabs set up a council to administer the city, but they are desert tribesmen, ill-suited for such a task. Unable to maintain the electricity, telephones, and waterworks, and bickering constantly with each other, they soon abandon most of Damascus to the British. Lawrence is promoted to colonel and then immediately ordered home, his usefulness at an end to the real victors. The negotiations are left to Faisal and the British diplomats. A dejected Lawrence is driven away in a staff car. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_of_Arabia_%28film%29 Title: Re: STACK Quiz - January 2011 - Win $250 JB Hi-Fi Voucher - answer questions Post by: Larabelle on Saturday 08 January 2011, 01:42:30 am Helga - that's exactly what I came up with last night for question 10. I found a scene on youtube that said it was the last scene, but it didn't quite seem to fit...I've never seen the film and so I wasn't even sure if the YouTube clip was even the final scene (if that makes sense).
Actually, I just watched another clip and yep, I think the answer is Lawrence of Arabia. Here's the link - start watching from about 4 minutes in... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqvFik5DbAo&feature=related Title: Re: STACK Quiz - January 2011 - Win $250 JB Hi-Fi Voucher - answer questions Post by: helga22 on Saturday 08 January 2011, 10:10:18 am Yes, that's it... watch from 4:45 to 5:45 minutes into the clip. Thanks Larabelle
So Q 10 is definitely Lawrence of Arabia |
