COMPETITION: All school students in the electorate of Petrie are eligible and can enter the competition by writing an essay on the Competition Topic and submitting it with the entry form below. Students enter in either the Primary School or Secondary School category. Primary school students must write no more than 1000 words and secondary school students must write no more than 1500 words. Five finalists will be chosen from each category. The finalists will be required to present a speech on their essay at a Gala Evening. Finalists will be judged on both their writing and public speaking skills. The winners will be announced at the Gala Evening. All entrants will be invited to the Gala Evening and will receive a presentation on the evening. Families and friends are also invited to attend the Gala Evening. For your chance to spend a day in the corridors of power seeing how Parliament works, enter now!! Conditions of Entry – Petrie Future Leaders Essay and Public Speaking Competition 2011 1. The competition is an essay and public speaking competition authorised by the Federal Member for Petrie, Yvette D’Ath MP. Entrants are required to submit an essay on the Competition Topic. There are two event categories, a Primary School Category and a Secondary School Category. Entrants will be judged on their essay and five finalists will be selected from each of the categories. The ten finalists will be required to present a speech on their essay at a Gala Evening. The finalists will be judged on their essay and speech at the Gala Evening. 2. All entrants will be invited to the Gala Evening and will receive a presentation at the event. All Entrants will be notified of the details of the Gala Evening including date and venue after the closing of the Competition. The Gala Evening will be held in June, date to be announced. 3. For an Entry Form to be valid, all Entry Forms must be signed by a Parent or Guardian. The Parent or Guardian must sign that they have read the Conditions of Entry of this Competition and agree to their terms. 4. Entry is open to all school-aged children currently attending school in the electorate of Petrie. See below for a list of schools within the electorate of Petrie. 5. There are two event categories. Students must nominate in either the Primary School or Secondary School category. 6. There are two prizes to be awarded, one for the winner of the Primary School Category and one for the winner of the Secondary School Category. The prize for each category is the same. Winners will be announced on the night of the Gala Evening. 7. First prize of each category is a non-refundable, non-transferable day-return trip from Brisbane to Canberra for the category winner and parent or designated guardian. The winners and parents/guardians will spend the day behind the scenes in Parliament House, including visiting the House of Representatives Chamber and Senate Chamber and attending Question Time. Travel from Canberra Airport to Parliament House and all meals are included in the prize. Travel to and from Brisbane Airport must be organised by the Winner and will be at their own expense. 8. Any additional expenses incurred by the prize winner, other than those outlined in these terms and conditions, are the responsibility of the winner. 9. The Winners will travel to Canberra on a day to be determined during the 2011 parliamentary sitting period. The travel date will be subject to discussions between the Winners, Parents/Guardians and the Office of the Federal Member for Petrie. The Winners must travel to Canberra on the same date. 10. Competition entry is conditional on the individual Entrant and Parent/Guardian agreeing to accept the first prize if successful. 11. The Promoter reserves the right to present other awards/certificates at the Gala Evening, as part of the Competition, for example a Highly Commended Certificate for Essay, as the Judges determine appropriate. 12. To be considered valid, entry forms must be submitted including: 12.1. a completed, signed entry form; 12.2. essays in writing, typed, via email to: Yvette.D’Ath.MP@aph.gov.au or posted to: Yvette D’Ath MP, PO Box 667, Aspley Q 4034. 13. Entry Forms will be accepted from Monday, 14 March to Friday, 29 April 2011. Applications close at 5pm EST on Friday 29 April 2011. All Entries must be received by the closing date and time to be eligible. 14. Yvette D’Ath MP takes no responsibility for applications submitted via email or post that are not received. 15. Only one entry per person will be accepted. 16. The essay must be the student’s own work. 17. The competition will be judged by a panel of Yvette D’Ath’s selection and their decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 18. Successful finalists (five from each category) will be notified by Monday, 16 May 2011. 19. All Entrants will be invited to the Gala Evening and notified if they have not been chosen as a finalist. 20. The value of the first prize is determined by Yvette D’Ath and no correspondence or dialogue will be entered into in relation to the value of the prize. 21. Successful first prize winners will be presented with an airline ticket in the name of the entrant and nominated parent or guardian only. 22. First prize flight details will be negotiated with the winners however final authority to make decisions remains with Yvette D’Ath MP. 23. The personal information collected by Yvette D’Ath over the course of the competition will be retained for use throughout the competition and will not be released to any other body under any circumstances. 24. Competition entry grants permission to use essays entered for publication and promotional purposes. 25. Competition entry grants permission to take photos of entrants for publication and promotional purposes, including the Gala Evening. 26. Yvette D’Ath MP reserves the right to alter or amend these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel the competition without further recourse to the entrants. 27. To the extent permitted by law, the Promoter is not liable for any loss or damage whatsoever which is suffered (including but not limited to direct or consequential loss) or for any personal injury sustained in connection with the entry into the competition or acceptance of the prize.
