AmpFest 2011 is a chance for up and coming, young bands, duos and solo artists to get noticed in the music industry. This pioneering youth music competition will give you the opportunity to play in front of a live audience, meet music industry professionals and share in a fantastic prize pool worth over $10,000! Aboutt AmpFestt NOTE: ‘ACT’ refers to band, duo or solo performers. AmpFest 2011 is a Youth Advisory Council initiative, supported by the Towns of Claremont and Mosman Park, the Shire of Peppermint Grove and the City of Subiaco. It is co-ordinated by WAM (The Wes Australian Music Industry Association Inc) This event is part funded by Healthway ‘Drug Aware’. From the applications received, 15 acts will be selected to perform across three heats. Three winning acts will then be chosen for the final, in addition to 1 wild card entry, to be in the running to win a selection of great prizes. All acts who enter AmpFest 2011 will have the opportunity to participate in professional development workshops and meet with music industry professionals. Terrms and Condiittiions Eligibility This competition is open to all Western Australian original unsigned bands, duos and solo artists. Any bands that have participated in the Final of AmpFest in previous years are not eligible to enter the competition in 2011. Age The majority of an act’s members must be between the ages of 12 and 25 inclusive. Please note that band members under the age of 18 will require signed permission from a parent or guardian to enter the competition. Demo/Biography Acts must include the following with their application: (Please note the material submitted will not be returned). • A demo CD recording of their work, including 2 original songs together with song titles and lyrics. Please ensure the CD is adequately labeled and packaged for postage. Recordings on mediums other than CD will not be accepted. • Band biographies: – A full biography (up to 1 A4 page maximum) detailing number of act’s members, instruments used, musical genre, how long the act has been together and performance history. – An abridged biography (40 word maximum – if band is selected this will be printed in the AmpFest promotion of the event). • A printed photograph of the act. If selected, your act will also need to supply a high resolution band photograph in PDF format for use on the website, Facebook and Myspace. The demo and photograph do not need to be of professional quality. Registration Fee A registration fee of $20 is required with each application submitted. Money orders and cheques must be made payable to the City of Subiaco. Please do not send cash through the mail. Please see at the bottom for where to send applications. Performance Rules 1. All acts must be available to attend: The Band Development Workshops (sponsored by ‘Drug Aware’ and CIT Leederville) on: • Tuesday 26 July 2011 6pm – 10pm @ CIT Leederville (TAFE) • Wednesday 27 July 2011, 6pm – 10pm @ CIT Leederville (TAFE) Any heat on either: • Friday 5 August, 2011,6pm – 10pm @ Claremont venue tbc • Friday 12 August 2011, 6pm – 10pm @ CIT Leederville • Friday 19 August 2011, 6pm – 10pm @ Memorial Hall, Mosman Park and The AmpFest 2011 final on: • Friday 2 September 2011, 5.30pm – 10pm @ Subiaco Church Hall 2. Acts will NOT be permitted to choose the date of their heat. 3. All acts will be required to play for a minimum of 15 minutes and no longer than 20 minutes at their allocated heat. All songs must be of original material. 4. Offensive language/lyrics, including drug references, will not be permitted during the heats or final. Material with offensive language/drug references should not be submitted in the application. 5. All acts performing in the heats and final, must include the same members as originally nominated on the application and as recorded on the demo CD. 6. Throughout the AmpFest competition (including follow-up publicity), all acts selected to be involved must use their band name as nominated on the original application form. Equipment Acts must supply their own instruments and will be responsible for their own equipment. The AmpFest organisers will take no responsibility for damaged or faulty equipment. IMPORTANT: All acts playing in the AmpFest heats and final must have all electrical items checked over and tagged by a certified electrician before their performance. Acts who do not have tagged electrical equipment will not be able to use that equipment in their performance. A PA system and all microphones will be supplied by the AmpFest organisers. Acceptance Entering DOES NOT guarantee a place in the competition. The selection process will take place based on the biography and demo submitted. Documentation and Media The AmpFest organisers will have the right to use any audio/visual footage of acts taken at AmpFest events for documentation/promotional purposes. This includes internet, television and print media. During the AmpFest competition, all media releases relating to the competition must be approved by the AmpFest organisers. Acts not adhering to this clause may be disqualified at the AmpFest organisers’ discretion. Sponsorship Requirements AmpFest events including band development workshops, heats and the final are strictly smoke, alcohol and drug free events. It is a condition of sponsorship that competitors at all AmpFest events do not smoke, carry cigarettes, alcohol or other drugs. Judging The judges at the event will be professionals working within the music industry and are independent to the AmpFest organisers. The judges’ decisions are final in all matters relating to selecting places, winners or awards and no correspondence or debate will be entered into. The judges will choose a total of four acts to compete in the final: one from each heat, plus one wild card entry. Wild Card Entrant The judges from the heats will nominate 3 acts be eligible to enter the final as a wild card entrant. Voting will take place on the AmpFest facebook page. One band will be chosen to play the final. Copyright All copyrights remain the property of the original owners. AmpFest does not condone any breaches of copyright, it is your responsibility to ensure you do not infringe on existing copyrights. Disqualification Failure to comply with the above entry requirements may result in disqualification from the competition. Closing Date Only one entry may be submitted by each act. Entries must be received by the City of Subiaco by 5.00pm on Friday 1 July 2011. Late entries will not be considered and the organisers accept no responsibility for entries that are late, lost, misdirected or mailed with insufficient postage. Heat Notification All successful entrants will be contacted by mail regarding heat allocation during the week commencing Monday 11 July. All acts must be available to attend the Drug Aware Band Development Workshops on the evenings of 26 and 27 July 2011 and any heat on the evenings of 5, 12 and 19 of August, and the final on Friday 2 September.
