Photography Competition
Entries open Tuesday 24 May 2011

This year Council's annual photography award is going online. It will be easier than ever to enter a photo and to vote for your favourite images.

This year's categories are:

Our beautiful bushland
People of Hornsby Shire
Buildings of Hornsby Shire
Youth open category (for under 12s)
Open category


Criteria
Entry is open to all amateur photographers residing in the Hornsby Shire Local Government area.
Professional photographers may enter the Open category only. (A professional photographer is defined as having received payment for any photographic work in the last five years.)
Photos must be taken within the last 12 months in the Hornsby Shire Local Government area.

How to enter
Entries open Tuesday 24 May, and from this date entrants will be able to upload their photos online here. Entries close Friday 17 June.



How to vote
Online voting will open on Friday 1 July, and closes at 5pm, Friday 22 July. Prizes will be awarded to photos that receive the most votes. (Please note, voters will be asked to provide their email address for authentication purposes only, and only one vote per category per email address will be allowed.)

Photography competition terms and conditions
1.The competition is only open to amateur and professional photographers residing in the Hornsby Shire Local Government area.
2.Entries will be displayed publicly via Council’s website.
3.Entrants may submit a maximum of four entries per category.
4.Images MUST be taken by the entrant in the last 12 months within Hornsby Shire.
5.Images must be digital, all elements of the image must be the original photographic work of the photographer. Only minor digital manipulation (such as brightness / contrast) of a photograph will be accepted.
6.The person entering the photographic competition MUST be the photographer.
7.The competition is for amateur and professional photographers.  (NB. A professional photographer is defined as having received payment for any photographic work in the last five years).
8.Professional photographers may ONLY enter the Open Category (NB. A professional photographer is defined as having received payment for any photographic work in the last five years).
9.By entering this competition you agree that you have the permission of any person/s depicted in your photographs to enter this competition. You must have the permission of the parent or guardian, for photographs depicting person/s under the age of 18.
10.Unless otherwise specified, permission to reproduce entries for publicity purposes related to the competition, sponsors, Council publications and Council promotions will be assumed. Full credit will be given to the photographer.
11.The 2011 Digital Photography competition will be judged by the community. The final count of votes will be assessed and finalised.
12.A winner can only receive recognition in one category, the overall best photograph submitted by a photographer will be determined by the number of votes by the general public.
13.Any entry considered to be unsuitable for the competition will be rejected.
14.A limit of 100 photographs per category will be capped for display on Council’s website, it is Hornsby Shire Council’s discretion to display photographs that best represent the competition, this decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
15.Photos may be re-sized to fit in the allocated display on Council’s website.
16.Maximum digital file size is 10MB.
17.Only 1 vote from an email address per category will be counted in the final tally of votes.
18.Any photographer that is revealed to be cheating in the competition or with voting will be immediately disqualified from winning the competition.
