Title: The dangers of Autofill - I'm hoping I can laugh!...
Post by: JBMarigold on Sunday 12 June 2011, 06:25:04 pm
This is actually true, but I hope I can laugh after I've made some phone calls on Tuesday!...

I bought two tickets on line last night for a writers' festival. I scrolled down to enter the personal details and hit Autofill then BUY. The next window told me I was successful and I'd get a confirmation email.
I DID get that email, confirming I'd bought my two tickets AND TICKETS TO TWO DINNERS that were on a separate page!!!

Worse than that, Autofill had used my phone number for the number of tickets for each dinner!!!

Apparently, my VISA has now been charged $81,033,513,555.00... yes, that's $81 BILLION!

It exceeds my limit by just a smidge... I'll be interested to see what my bank does here (assuming wets itself laughing and ignores) and whether I've thrown a small organization's system into total chaos!

Otherwise I'll need 39.528 million friends to take to dinner with me!

Dangers indeed.  And on a long weekend.  Can you not contact the bank before Tuesday?  IN the meantime you can put your writing skills to good use by drafting a letter of apology and begging for a reversal of a fortune.  Good luck  :D

Shock doesn't come close, heck I can feel the icy cold dread, the stab of pure panic and the lol of it all at once just reading your predicament  :D, I hope all gets sorted tomorrow JB.  Even though I've had a few oops moments with autofill I don't think I'll ever complain again after reading about that one!  8)

I thought that sort of stuff only happened to the Sylph family!

Hilarious JBMarigold, I do hope you get it sorted out and the other parties involved aren't going to be mongrels about it. :)

All sorted!

A quick phone call this morning revealed that online bookings generate a list of emails that someone manually enters (today) as internet bank payments.

So nothing had gone through to my bank and a booking for $81 billion would have been intercepted anyhow.

Just hope they don't have me black-listed as 'the dingbat to be shadowed while on site'...

A reasonable resolution, good story well told, and a lesson to us all.  Of on line bookings beware!

No doubt a story to tell in years to come.

The day you spent $81 billion on dinner.

He he!

Whoops...and...Yikes!

Consider yourself fortunate, it could have been the equivalent of $81 billion in UK terms (1 billion = 1million million).

Glad to have read that there was a positive resolution.
