This year’s took place at the beautiful Teatro Real, Madrid under the baton of musical director Sir Simon Rattle. Featured in the performance was acclaimed Flamenco guitarist Cañizares and the music of Emmanuel Chabrier (España), JoaquÍn Rodrigo and Sergei Rachmaninov (Symphony No.2 in E minor, Op. 27). Concert Series #2: ABBADO CONDUCTS THE BERLIN PHILHARMONIKER: MAHLER Screening in cinemas August 20, 21 and 24 Maestro Claudio Abbado returns to the Berlin Philharmonic for this special concert tribute to one of the greatest composers of the 19th Century - Gustav Mahler - and the 100th anniversary of his death. Featuring mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, renowned tenor Jonas Kaufmann and Mahler’s masterwork “Das Lied von der Erde”. Concert Series #3: WALDBUHNE 2011 Screening in cinemas September 10, 11 and 14 Each year the amazing Waldbühne outdoor amphitheatre in Berlin plays host to the Philharmonic’s summer concerts. One of the most popular classical music concerts in the world, this year’s performance is conducted by Riccardo Chailly and features the music of Ottorino Respighi, Nino Rota (“La Strada” suite) and Dmitri Shostakovich (Suite No. 2 for Jazz Orchestra) Concert Series #4: BERLIN PHILHARMONIKER & YATUKA SADO Screening in cinemas September 24, 25 and 28 Recorded live at the Berliner Philharmonie, this special benefit concert for the victims of the Japanese disasters features the Philharmonic debut of charismatic and award-winning conductor Yutaka Sado (long-time assistant of Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa).
