A Bit About Helen (the creator)

The idea of a uniquely Australian play doll was sparked when Helen Schofield couldn’t find quality dolls for her own granddaughters, that weren’t either babies or teenagers.  Helen designs most of the clothes for the dolls herself, with help from a focus group, while also encouraging input from a Textile Fashion Design student from the local university.  Helen is keen to showcase Australian talent at every opportunity. Read about how the dolls were made here: The Making of Australian Girl.

The Illustrations

Jason Chatfield, renowned Australian cartoonist, comedian and creator of Ginger Meggs, does the illustrations for Australian Girl®.  Below are a few examples:

I’m a very proud Australian and so I’m excited about these dolls. Not only are they beautiful yet practical, they also represent our Aussie culture. Many of the toys available to our children have a strong American influence, so to have a unique toy, designed by an Australian, for Australian children, is all kinds of awesome to me.
