Win a scooter at QUT Open Day this Sunday July 29 - Kelvin Grove - Brisbane.

Imagine pulling up to your first day of university on a scooter. A free one. QUT is giving prospective students the chance to win an Aprilia Sport City One 50cc scooter, one-year registration and all the required gear at the QUT Open Day on Sunday, July 29.

Just fill in an entry form at QUT's annual Open Day from 9am to 3pm at the university's Kelvin Grove campus to be in the competition.

QUT career counsellor Nyree Hatzimihail said the day was the best chance for students to ask questions and sample what university life is like.

She encouraged people thinking about studying at QUT to attend course information seminars, chat with staff and current students from all study areas and check out the facilities.

Here are Ms Hatzimihail's six tips for getting the most out of Open Day:

• Download the program before you come to Open Day and plan your day around available workshops and faculty talks;
• Talk to faculty staff to find out about course requirements;
• If choosing between courses, ask a lot of questions about the focus and outcomes of each course to better compare them;
• Discuss different study pathways and course upgrades if you think you might not reach the OP rank required;
• Find out what current students like and dislike about the course. For example, was it what they thought it was going to be?
• Confirm key dates for applications, portfolios and scholarships, as well as find out about academic and support services, clubs and associations.

QUT's Caboolture campus will also host an open day next month (August 19) for prospective students who live in the North Brisbane, Moreton Bay or Sunshine Coast region.
