Win a Double Pass to see Biddies at Her Majesty's Theatre Some of Australia’s most loved actresses star in the new Australian comedy Biddies, which takes a light-hearted look at being female (and mature) in today’s world. Biddies, by renowned playwright Don Reid, will play at Her Majesty’s Theatre from 14 – 18 August. Directed by Wayne Harrison, Biddies follows the highly successful 2010 season of Codgers, the award-winning comedy which dealt with the senior Aussie male. “Codgers was unashamedly about men” says playwright Don Reid. “Many of those who saw it, very often female, asked me ‘Well and good, but how about a play dealing with women?’ The idea became irresistible.” In Biddies, a group of ordinarily marvellous women find themselves back in their infants school classroom plying their needles in a good old-fashioned session of “stitch and bitch”. Their confessions are frank, their rivalries intense and their jokes outrageous. They discover a common frustration with the limitations of being female and mature in a world still largely defined by men. Accidentally locked in the classroom, with nothing but ingenuity, Adora Cream Wafers and a bucket to get them through the crisis, unknown reserves come to the fore. Released from their own constraints, they rediscover their capacity to love, forgive – and take control. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Feisty, vulnerable, and in full bloom, these gals are everything – except old! Biddies’ distinguished cast features six of Australia’s most loved actresses – Maggie Blinco (Embers, Crocodile Dundee), Annie Byron (A Country Practice, Hedda Gabler), Vivienne Garrett (Number 96, Matlock), Julie Hudspeth (Nothing Personal, The Young Doctors), Donna Lee (Menopause the Musical, Les Miserables) and Linden Wilkinson (The Sullivans, Looking for Alibrandi).
