Nominated for an Academy Award for best foreign film, In Darkness is an extraordinary tale of survival based on a true story of one man’s rescue of Jewish refugees. Leopold Socha (Robert Wieckiewicz) is a sewer worker and petty thief in Lvov, a city in Nazi-occupied Poland. One day he encounters a group of Jews trying to escape the liquidation of the ghetto. For payment, he agrees to hide them in the labyrinth of the town’s sewers beneath the bustling activity of the city above. As the enterprise seeps deeper into Socha’s conscience, what starts out as a straightforward and cynical business arrangement turns into an unlikely alliance between Socha and the refugees. The Australian Jewish News and Cinema Nova have five double in-season passes to give away to In Darkness. The season begins July 26. Specific terms and conditions apply.
