Giveaway Monday – Review of service for mums in business

Over the past 12 months I have used one other PR firm to assist in getting the business out there. This firm wrote the media release and sent the emails. Handle Your Own PR is different as you write your own media release and you actually send the emails yourself! Fabulous as you get to write exactly what you would like.

For some I can see that writing your own media release would be a challenge BUT this company provide you will an eBook which takes you through the step by step process of writing the release to sending it out. Without this ebook, handling your own PR may seem a little daunting if you haven’t had any experience writing previously. The eBook also gives examples of how to put together your release and much, much more. There are examples on what to type into the subject line of the email, tips on what to actually write in the email, how to attach the release, when to follow up without being annoying (!) and so on. This is an invaluable resource and I can see I will be able to use it over and over again in the future.

What could be improved? The guys at Handle Your Own PR provide lots of support and guidance if you are new to the whole PR and dealing with the media. I can see you would be able to reuse the contacts received at a later time. As a photographer, it was difficult for me to choose which ‘list’ to choose but I think this was because I have a couple of different focus areas in my own business.  If you are time poor (like me!) you may find the do- it-yourself approach quite time consuming. As the team recommend sending individual emails to each contact. However, I can see it would be great if you were trying to save a little on the budget or if you have a fabulous office assistant who could send all the emails for you.

Would I use the service again?  Once I have a full time office person I would definitely use the service again in the future. It is well priced and provides lots of useful information. The team were happy and prompt to deal with and seem to know their stuff.
