Got a killer app idea, but lack the skills to make it happen? Content provider Cutting Edge is running a competition for the best app idea — and the prize is getting it made for free.

Just as everyone has an idea for a book inside them, everyone has a concept for an app; but the coding and design skills to get it out there are rather harder to come by.

Post-production house Cutting Edge, based in Brisbane, does have those skills — and, in a campaign called "Make Me Appy", is putting them up for grabs.

Open Australia-wide to members of the advertising, production, design and marketing industries, the prize is a fully designed, developed and launched app up to the value of AU$20,000.

Before you ask, the winner will retain ownership rights to the app, although Cutting Edge will retain the rights to the source code.

You will have 200 words to make your case, and the competition closes on 31 August 2012 — but you may make as many entries as you like. Head over to the Cutting Edge website to read the terms and conditions, find out more about the competition and make an entry.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
This competition is conducted by Cutting Edge Pty Ltd, of 90 Victoria St, West End, Brisbane, QLD, 4101, Australia (Cutting Edge). Entries into this competition open at 12:05 (AEST) on 16 July 2012 and close on 31 August at 23:55 (AEST) (the Competition Period). By entering into this competition, you (Entrant) accept these terms and conditions.
ELIGIBILITY
This competition is only open to individuals (over 18) and companies who are members of the Australian advertising, design, production and marketing industries, and remain active or employed in those industries during the Competition Period.
Employees of Cutting Edge and their immediate families (which including spouses, ex-spouses, de-facto spouses, children or step-children, parents, grand-parents, step-parents, grandchildren, uncles, aunts, niece, nephews, brothers, sisters, step-brothers, step-sisters or first cousins) are not eligible to enter this competition.
Entries to the competition must be made by submitting an online entry form at cuttingedge.com.au/makemeappy. Cutting Edge may consider entries that are made by any other means.
Entry into the competition is free.
A person may enter the competition on more than one occasion in accordance with the procedure specified in these terms and conditions, although Cutting Edge reserves the right, in its absolute discretion, to refuse to accept multiple entries from an Entrant.
Cutting Edge may reject any entries that have an estimated development cost of over $20,000 (including GST), determined using Cutting Edge's standard rates on a time basis.
The prize is performing the development of the winning submission (Winning APP) by Cutting Edge, and will be given in the form of services rendered, including scoping, design and development of the Winning APP concept to the value of $20,000 (including GST), determined using Cutting Edge's standard rates on a time basis.
The prize is not transferable and is not redeemable for cash.
The Winning APP will be completed and provided to the winning Entrant within 12 months of close of the Competition Period.
The entries will be judged by Dave Bullard, Editor Macworld Australia, and the Winning APP selected and announced at 90 Victoria St, West End, Brisbane, 4101 at 12pm on 7 September 2012.
The competition is a game of skill. The judges' decision is final.
The winner will be contacted by phone or email. If the Entrant of the Winning APP cannot be contacted by Cutting Edge within 48 hours of judging, Cutting Edge may select an alternative entry as the Winning APP.
Entries will be judged on the basis of the best proposed APP (in the opinion of the judge and Cutting Edge, in their absolute discretion) which can be developed by Cutting Edge for a budget of approximately $20,000 (including GST), determined using Cutting Edge's standard rates on a time basis. Cutting Edge reserves the right to select an APP that has a development cost of more than $20,000 (including GST) as the Winning APP.
The retail value of each prize is $20,000 (including GST). If Cutting Edge anticipates that the cost of developing the Winning APP will exceed $20,000 (including GST), Cutting Edge may reduce the functionality of the design for the Winning APP so that it can be developed within the $20,000 (including GST) budget, or may agree to permit the Entrant to contribute development costs which exceed $20,000 (including GST).
Cutting Edge accepts no responsibility for any entries not received within the required time or at all. Entries will be deemed accepted when they are received by Cutting Edge. Cutting Edge may verify the validity of entries and disqualify any Entrant without notice for providing false information, failing to comply with these terms and conditions or tampering with the entry process. Cutting Edge is not responsible for any technical difficulties that prevent an otherwise valid entry from being received by Cutting Edge.
Subject to paragraph 18, Cutting Edge will not be liable for any loss or damage (however caused), suffered by the Entrant in connection with these terms and conditions or the competition.
Except as contemplated by paragraph 22, nothing in these terms and conditions is intended to limit any rights of the Entrant under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth).
If the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth) or any other legislation provides that there is a guarantee in relation to any good or service supplied by Cutting Edge in connection with these terms and conditions or the competition and Cutting Edge's liability for failing to comply with that guarantee cannot be excluded but may be limited, then paragraph 20 does not apply to that liability and instead Cutting Edge's liability for such failure is limited to (at Cutting Edge's election): (a) in the case of the supply of goods, Cutting Edge replacing the goods or supplying equivalent goods, repairing the goods, paying the cost of replacing the goods or of acquiring equivalent goods, or paying the cost of having the goods repaired; or (b) in the case of supply of services, Cutting Edge supplying the services again or paying the cost of having the services supplied again.
The winning Entrant indemnifies Cutting Edge for all loss or damage, however caused (including legal costs), incurred or suffered by Cutting Edge in connection with a claim or allegation by a third party that use of the Winning APP infringes the intellectual property rights (including copyright and patent rights) of a third party.
Cutting Edge makes no representation and gives no warranty in relation to the functionality of the Winning APP, or that use of the Winning APP will not infringe any third party intellectual property rights (including copyright and patent rights).
All liability for government charges, expenses, taxes or any other tax or duty is the sole responsibility of the winner.
By entering into the competition the Entrant consents to Cutting Edge using, modifying and disclosing: (a) the Entrant's name, likeness, image or voice (including photograph, film or recording) in any media; and (b) all information provided by the Entrant in the entry form (Material), for an unlimited time without further reference, payment or any other compensation to the Entrant for the promotion of any products or services of Cutting Edge, including sending the Entrant electronic messages. The use and disclosure of the Material by Cutting Edge is subject to Cutting Edge's privacy policy and the restrictions imposed by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
If an Entrant does not provide Cutting Edge with the personal information requested in the entry form, then at the absolute discretion of Cutting Edge, the Entrant may be disqualified from the competition.
The Entrant consents to all acts or omissions of any person, including Cutting Edge, in connection with the Material or the Winning APP, that would otherwise constitute an infringement of any moral rights that the Entrant may have now, or in the future pursuant to the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). Without limiting the foregoing, if requested by Cutting Edge, the Entrant agrees to provide consent to any specific act or omission nominated by Cutting Edge that may otherwise infringe the moral rights of the Entrant.
Subject to third party rights, Cutting Edge grants the Entrant a non-exclusive, non-transferrable, global licence to sell the Winning APP through the online Apple itunes store.
The Entrant acknowledges that the source code rights (including copyright and patent rights) in the Winning APP vest in Cutting Edge. To the extent necessary to give effect to this paragraph, the Entrant assigns the source code rights (including copyright and patent rights) in the Winning APP to Cutting Edge.
The Entrant must acknowledge that the Winning APP was created by Cutting Edge, and must not remove the name and logo of Cutting Edge from any screenshot taken from the Winning APP.
Any queries regarding the competition should be directed to info@cuttingedge.com.au during Cutting Edge's business hours.
If for any reason any aspect of the competition is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, telephone network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond the control of Cutting Edge, Cutting Edge may in its sole discretion cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition, or invalidate any affected entries.
Without limiting any other paragraph, Cutting Edge may cancel the competition or amend any aspect of this competition or of these terms at any time.
Any dispute between Cutting Edge and an Entrant will be determined under the laws of Queensland by the courts of Queensland.
Paragraphs 15 to 22, 24, 28 and 30 survive termination or expiry of this agreement.
