Village Roadshow

The Onedin Line
Complete  Series 7
Its quite some  time since we had any DVD’s of this fantastic series on  our competitions. First released by the BBC in 1979,  there were actually eight  series made, totalling in all 91 epsodes.
This very popular story of a Liverpool shipping family set in 1885 recaptures the golden age of sailing ships with filming using real ships  and authentic dockside sets .
Series 7 which  has 10 episodes, still follows the fortunes of  James Onedin who is now the proud owner of 25 sailing ships , but the age of steam has arrived and James is facing growing competition, particularly from his sister Elizabeth owner of  the steam propelled Frazier Line.
This series is also full of the usual  on board  conflicts that cramped life on the sailing ships caused, and  the on shore family arguments that big families seem to bring.
The theme music in all these series is the wonderful soaring music from the Ballet “Sparticus”  which is written by Aram Khachaturian.
Watching this complete series 7 made me remember how  I used to love this show but unfortunately missed quite a few episodes, so I  now hope to catch up with  it all again.
This series 7  will be released 3rd October and has three disc’s and runs for 499 mins.

‘Coast’      Series 7
This wonderful series has been screening on the TV channel SBS, and if  you havent caught up with it as yet, you have missed a fascinating six part documentary covering Britians varied and spectacular coastline.
Led by Nicolas Crane, this  strong  team of experts probe the riddle of the tides, goes island hopping, discovers harbours , explores the wild coasts and reveals the secret life of beaches.
With stunning aerial photography, each episode is a journey around Britians coastal landscape..
Sit back and enjoy a thoroughly entertaining  359 mins of breathtaking scenery, plus  learning  some of the history  of this varied coastline.
Two discs in this series released on October the 3rd.
Scott & Bailey--- Series Two

This is another crime show from the BBC  which debuted in May 2011. It is a show with a  bit of a difference, instead of featuring all the  males that usually make up a police drama,  this is filmed from a woman’s point of view, with no shoot outs, no  high speed car chases, and  no horrific  views  of murder victims.
Just really interesting drama, combining the professional and private lives of the two  female detectives. Robin Bailey and Janet Scott.,who are close friends but with different personalities.
Both are members of the major incident team of the fictional  Manchester Metropolitan Police headed by a woman DCI Gil Murray.
Each episode sees the women juggle complex home lives with their day job---- trying to solve serious crime.
It is quite true to life and really absorbing viewing.
In fact the show  Scott& Bailey and has been screening  on the ABC for some time now   and has  just  come to the end of its run.
Series 2 is a two disc set   Released 10th October. But I believe Series Three has been given the go ahead and should start filming November this year.
