True Blood is the last bastion of acceptable vampire entertainment for most of us for one good reason: it’s not television, it’s HBO damnit. Once we saw those opening credits many years ago, there was no way this was going to be the ordinary teenage, shimmering forest romp with an extra helping of hair gel.

Alan Ball continues to cast his ever-expanding brand of magic in the latest season to DVD, where a vampire civil war is brewing, Sookie is dealing with a huge loss, and an old vampire foe has returned to wreak havoc on the human race. Just a normal day in Bon Temps, then.

The fifth season on DVD includes the full 12-episode season, along with extensive bonus materials including exclusive interviews and never-before-seen content.
