Title: 1.4 DP Australia Day play - Redlands only Post by: Mkett57 on Thursday 09 January 2014, 07:37:56 pm http://www.baysidebulletin.com.au/story/2013587/rollicking-comedy-puts-local-councillor-in-mayors-role/?cs=213
PAUL Bishop is about to become mayor, but not of Redland City. The Division 10 councillor and actor will star in Australia Day, which will open Queensland Theatre Company's 2014 season. This rollicking satire is set in Coriole, a typical little country town, where life is laidback and carefree - unless you're a member of the Australia Day committee, which couldn't raffle a chook in a pub. This mob of bumbling bureaucratic battlers debates the minute details of the national day and identity. Thrown into this laugh-out-loud mix of politics and small town social culture is the fact the affable yet scheming Mayor Brian Harrigan (Bishop) has his eye off the ball, preoccupied by his own bid to win true blue pre-selection for the Liberal Party and his sledging sessions with the local Greens. Will Coriole's Australia Day be a little ripper, or go off like a bucket of prawns in the sun? Australia Day will be staged at QPAC's Playhouse Theatre from January 25 to February 16. For tickets, go to queenslandtheatre.com.au or phone 1800 355 528.
