FOLLOW the yellow brick road to Soldiers Point Bowling Club on January 24 to watch L. Frank Baum's classic tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz come alive on stage.

The show's director, Brian Laul, said The Wizard of Oz Show is a no sit-down-and-watch affair.

"Our shows are really about inviting kids to get up and move around, to relate to our music and to laugh and have a great time," he said.

Children who take part in the production's drama skills workshop on the morning of the show will also have the opportunity to get up on stage as a munchkin.

Between 9am and 10am at Soldiers Point Bowling Club, the Oz cast will lead a workshop with children, who will then be invited to join them on stage for the opening and final scene.

The cost for the workshop is $10 per child with places to be booked before January 24 by phoning 4626 7777.

Children are also invited to head to the show dressed as their favourite character.

Christerine Laul, the production's co-ordinator, said they had seen some amazing dress-ups.

"We've had some absolutely magnificent dress-ups from little Tinmen and Glindas to bricks from the yellow brick road," Laul said.

"A grandma in New Zealand even came twirling through the foyer dressed as Dorothy's house in the whirlwind."

The audience is also encouraged to take a toy to the show and donate it to the production company's Children's Hospital Toy Appeal.

Tickets to see the Soldiers Point show starting at 11am on Friday, January 24, cost $11 per person and are available from the venue or by phoning 4982 7173.

The Examiner has three double passes to see the The Wizard of Oz Show and five passes for children wanting to take part in the workshop.
