99 Bikes have teamed up with Bikes 4 Life to advance a fabulous initiative called ‘Upcycle’. This aims to empower two of the world’s most impoverished communities with 300 bicycles.

This project is the brainchild of Matt Turner, managing director of 99 Bikes and is based on the premise that bikes have the power to change lives. Increased access to food and medical supplies as well as a means of transport to a proper education all add up to an improved standard of living and ultimately, longer and more fulfilling lives for those in underprivileged, vulnerable and isolated communities.

99 Bikes is offering lycra-enthusiasts a ‘pedal bike’ for only $199 (rrp $349-$649) when they donate an old bike to Upcycle during November, December and Janurary. ‘Pedal bikes’ are a range of affordable, fashionable and functional bikes exclusive to 99 Bikes.

Furthermore, a $150 discount off the price of any model in the Pedal Bikes range will be awarded to Upcyclers when Bikes 4 Life collects their old bike. The bikes will be shipped to either a remote indigenous Australian community or a community in northern Uganda in early 2015 and is certain to change lives.

So while you upgrade your wheels and live a more active lifestyle, you can rest assured that you have assisted in breaking the cycle of poverty and making the world a better place.
