Hailing from Israel, New York and all points of the rhythmic compass, Balkan Beat Box’s Tamir Muskat (ex-Firewater, producer of Asaf Avidan & The Alaev Family), Ori Kaplan (ex-Golgol Bordello) and Tomer Yosef —MTV has called the three the Godfathers of Global Bass— came together in Brooklyn’s underground musical melting-pot crafting an exquisite sonic blend of Mediterranean-inflected, globalized electronica alongside an discontented and outspoken world view. Drawing upon their wide-ranging backgrounds in global nomad musical culture, their sound is a high-energy fusion of ancient traditions with the modern language of hip-hop, dancehall and electronic sampling. The band is explosive on record, but truly unforgettable on stage. Their most recent album, GIVE (2012), was inspired by protest movements across the globe—from the Arab Spring to Occupy Wall Street and Israel’s social protests—the album speaks out against social ills, while presenting a cautious hope and energizing spirit for our time.
