Jon English to perform in Nelson Bay

PORT Stephens Jon English fans will have the chance to see the performer live in their own backyard this month.

English and his five-piece band, all of whom sing and play several instruments, will show Six Is Enough at Wests Nelson Bay Diggers on Saturday, March 21.

Six Is Enough will feature all English's hits, plus songs from some of the musicals that have highlighted his enduring stage career during the past four decades.

These will include Heaven on Their Minds and Superstar from his Jesus Christ Superstar days, songs from musicals including Pirates of Penzance and classic hits from Trilogy of Rock (House of the Rising Sun, Bobby McGee and Smoke on the Water).

The rock singer, songwriter, musician and actor emigrated to Australia from England with his parents in 1961.

He took on the role of Judas Iscariot in the Australian version of the stage musical Jesus Christ Superstar from May 1972, which was broadcast on television.

His Australian top 20 hit singles include Turn the Page, Hollywood Seven, Words are Not Enough, Six Ribbons and Hot Town.

Aside from being a noted theatre, stage, television and rock music performer, English has written film and television scores, soundtracks and numerous songs.

Tickets to see English, available from westsnewcastle.com.au or by phoning 4981 1344, cost $35 for club members and $40 for non-members.
