Win tickets to see Thirsty Merc at Belmont 16's By ELLIE-MARIE WATTS Sept. 22, 2015, 5:40 p.m.

NEW ALBUM: Thirsty Merc will head to Belmont 16's on November 7.

IT HAS been 12 years since the band Thirsty Merc burst onto the Australian music landscape with its first independent EP, First Work.

In that time the group has followed up with three critically acclaimed studio albums, an acoustic fan favourites record and a swag of radio staples like 20 Good Reasons, Someday Someday, Mousetrap Heart and In The Summertime.

"We've haven't really stopped since 2002," said Rai Thistlethwayte, the band's vocalist, songwriter and co-founder.

"Being around for over a decade, we've got lots more experience than when we started.

"We've also still got loads of energy, and we want to harness that energy to work hard, around the clock, to continue touring and making good music."

Earlier this month the band - Thistlethwayte, Phil Stack (bass guitar), Karl Robertson (drums), and Matt Smith (guitar) - released its fourth studio album, Shifting Gears, their first new songs in five years.

To support the release of Shifting Gears, Thirsty Merc have embarked on a national tour which will include a stop at Belmont 16's on Saturday, November 7.

General admission tickets, available from ProTicket, are $39.50 or cost $74.50 per person for dinner and show.

The Examiner has one double pass, containing two general admission tickets, to give away to the Belmont show, which starts at 8.30pm.
