Trumbo stars Bryan Cranston as screenwriter Dalton Trumbo and Helen Mirren as gossip columnist Hedda Hopper in this gripping, spirited drama that sheds light on one of the darkest chapters in Hollywood history.

In 1947, the successful career of Dalton Trumbo comes to a crushing end when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted for their political ideologies. A fixture on the Hollywood social scene and a political activist supporting labour unions, equal pay and civil rights, Trumbo risks everything when he refuses to renounce his beliefs and pays the price for his commitment to freedom. The studios refuse to hire him, the US government sentences him to a year in prison, and the conflict soon entangles everyone in Hollywood – from the powerful anti-communist gossip columnist Hedda Hopper, to actors John Wayne and Kirk Douglas. With an irrepressible creative talent, Trumbo would find his way back onto the big screen. He wrote several scripts under pseudonyms during his exile, including Roman Holiday and The Brave One, both of which won Academy Awards under aliases, before having his real name back on the screen for the 1960’s blockbusters Spartacus and Exodus.

Trumbo will be in cinemas from 18 February.
