Go into the draw to win one of three double passes (each valued at $56) to see Victorian Opera’s charming rendition of the popular German fairy tale ‘Hansel and Gretel’ (9-12 June 2018 at Arts Centre Melbourne). “Once upon a time, on the edge of a great forest, there lived a very poor woodcutter with his wife and his two children, Hansel and Gretel”. Like every popular story, the tale of two mischievous siblings lost in the woods and trapped by the evil witch, has been adapted to various media including an opera by German composer Engelbert Humperdinck (1854-1921). Victorian Opera’s abridged version of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel is perfect for introducing younger children to the world of the opera. Even if the cast sing in German (with English scene descriptors), the familiar characters, the stunning sets and costumes and the beautiful score with folk tunes, performed by a life orchestra, will keep young audiences engaged. Before attending, you make like to go through the story with your child. Victorian Opera created an awesome storyboard.
