Exhibition on Screen have announced an encore Australian release of their stunning art film, Frida Kahlo as International Women’s Day on Tuesday March 8, 2022 Filmed extensively on location in Mexico City, including at Kahlo’s home ‘The Blue House’, this personal and intimate documentary, from Exhibition on Screen’s world-leading team of art film specialists, offers a unique journey into the life and art of one of the most celebrated and influential female artists of the past century. Revered in her home country for her attention to Mexican and indigenous culture, and by feminists around the globe for her depiction of the female experience and form; Kahlo is best known for her uncompromising self-portraits, which laid bare both her pain and her passion. Having suffered polio as a child, Kahlo almost died in a bus accident in her teens, suffering multiple injuries to her spine, shoulder, collarbone, ribs, pelvis and legs. Although she lived a full life, these injuries and related complications permeated Kahlo’s her 47 years, during which she endured 30 operations. Of Frida Kahlo’s 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits. |
