Title: Beat magazine - Win doubles to see Murray and The Movers Post by: culturebird on Saturday 08 November 2025, 02:04:00 am The Soul Movers, the beloved indie-rock outfit featuring OG Red Wiggle Murray Cook on guitar, have officially become Murray and The Movers. The rebrand comes with new single If I’m With You, now available on all streaming platforms and marking a shift from their soul-influenced past towards pure indie rock territory.
The track is a surge of power pop that takes cues from 1980s acts like The Go-Go’s and The Bangles, mixed with the bite of early ’90s favourites Matthew Sweet and Elvis Costello. Murray and The Movers frontwoman Lizzie Mack co-wrote the song, which explores nostalgia for a pre-internet era when people gathered at live music venues four nights a week without phones in sight. Murray and The Movers 28 November, Django Bar, Marrickville – get a free CD or vinyl with every ticket! 6 December, Cherry Bar, Melbourne (with The Pearlies and The Brakes) – get a free CD or vinyl with every ticket! 7 December, The Gem, Fitzroy (performing as Mack & Cook with The Brakes) 13 December, A Very Murray Orange Carols in the Botanical Garden 19 December, Smith’s Alternative, Canberra (performing as Mack & Cook) 1-3 March 2026, Nannup Music Festival (performing as Mack & Cook) 6-7 March 2026, Enlighten Festival, Canberra. The band recorded at Zen Sound Studios with engineer Geoff Lee. The track was later mixed by Stew Geddes and mastered by Steve Smart at Studios 301 in Sydney. The official video was shot around Melbourne’s The Forum, featuring Hosier Lane graffiti and a mural of Kurt Cobain as Murray and Lizzie race against time searching for the perfect night. The official name change happened on 29 October at Metro in Sydney during Murray Cook’s Rocktober event. After four albums as The Soul Movers, the band has played everything from rock to electro-pop to disco, but they’re ready to drop the soul and dive fully into indie rock with If I’m With You. The single launch happens on 28 November at Django Bar in Marrickville and 6 December at Cherry Bar in Melbourne, and every ticket comes with a free CD or vinyl. The band will perform as both Murray and The Movers for full band shows and as the duo Mack & Cook for stripped-back performances across their upcoming tour dates.
