Title: New Members - How to check to see if a comp is already posted, and more. Post by: sylph on Sunday 01 June 2008, 12:09:49 pm Recently, I've noticed a lot of newer members trying their hand at contributing to the forum by posting competitions. This is great! We love this! It's a really satisfying feeling to post up a comp and feel that you really are helping to contribute to this great site. :DD
We would like to encourage ALL of our newer members to 'have a go' at posting the comps they find. :) In saying this, there are a couple of pointers I'd like to give to our newer members; The SEARCH BOX: • Please use the search box function located at the top left of the forum to check if the comp you're about to post is already posted or not. The easiest way to do this is to put the comp link in the search box, or put a word from the competition title that is most likely to bring it up in the search. ie. If the comp is called, "Weet-Bix Win a Hyundai Getz" - try searching for the word "Getz" or "Hyundai", rather than trying to figure out if everyone types Weet-Bix, or Weet Bix, or Weetbix, or even WheatBix. If the Weet-bix comp is on the forum, it will show up in the search results. :) The COMPETITION CALENDAR: • Another, but more time-consuming way to check if a comp is already posted, is to check the closing date of the competition (usually listed in the Terms and Conditions, or elsewhere in the comp information), and then check the Competition Calendar on the forum for comps ending on that date. You can just use your Windows Edit > Find (on This Page) function to search for keywords, or browse through the list yourself. If you do happen to post a comp that is already posted, don't be put off if another member points this out to you, or if they offer the same instructions that have been offered in this post. :) We have asked our older, more experienced members to give a helping hand in that department, and there will always be someone to help you out whenever you need. We also have a thread on the forum with a list of other members who have offered their services as mentors, and are willing to be contacted by new members if they need any help or advice on how to post, or how the forum works in other ways. :) You can find this thread by clicking this link: Mentors available: http://compingclub.com/index.php?topic=67787.0 ALSO, we DO NOT CONDONE members telling other members that particular comps are 'their's' to post. This is a ridiculous notion, as all the competition information that is posted on this forum is free to the public domain, to be accessed by anyone. This notion has come about because it is, really, very hard to find a comp that hasn't already been posted on the forum, and it can be very frustrating to post one up, only to find you've double posted. Members are free to come to an agreement on posting particular comps, by a simple, reasonable, polite request via pm, but if both parties do not agree, then that's just tough luck, and it's 'first in, first served'. :) If any newer member feels that they are being harrassed, cajoled or bullied into not posting particular comps by any other member, please CONTACT A MOD or the ADMINISTRATOR immediately, by clicking on the "Report to moderator" link that appears at the bottom right of every post, so that we can deal with the problem properly. All contact will be kept confidential. The names of all Mods and Admin will appear in red at the bottom of the "Home" forum page, indicating which mods are online at the time, you can click on their name there to send them a personal pm. If no Mods or Admin are online, you can click on their name in any of their posts, or the pm button, and send them a message for them to pick up when they come online. And lastly; you're here to have fun, and win heaps of prizes! Don't sweat the small stuff, don't stress if you make a blue, we've all been there, and we're not going to snicker and point. :) We're an amazing bunch, and we're glad to have you here! Have fun and happy comping! :flower: Sylph (http://compingclub.com/index.php?action=profile;u=221) Global Moderator Title: Re: New Members - How to check to see if a comp is already posted, and more. If members currently posting comps could possibly have a scan of the calendar for closing dates to check if it's already posted. Would save alot of time. :) Thanks :D Title: Re: New Members - How to check to see if a comp is already posted, and more.
