Title: New Competition Options Post by: Administrator on Sunday 30 November 2008, 12:45:44 am I have been working on some code to be able to add options to competitions.
When you post a competition, you will notice that there are lots of options you can select by checking the checkbox. This work is under development and when finished members will be able to search for particular types of competitions. When viewing a comp, a list of options particular to that comp will be listed so you can quickly tell what type of comp it is. Hope you like it so far. :) Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: teash on Sunday 30 November 2008, 01:01:09 am It's great nice work :-), only, the comp I was posting was an Answer Question comp....and there was no box to tick for one like that...
Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: Administrator on Sunday 30 November 2008, 01:05:25 am What is an answer question comp?
I'd love some suggestions if anybody has any ideas about option fields we need etc.. Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: sylph on Sunday 30 November 2008, 01:09:06 am Answer question comps are ones that don't have to be words or less, just something like "What is the Capital of Queensland?" or "Name the two colours our products come in." something like that. :)
Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: Administrator on Sunday 30 November 2008, 01:13:00 am 'Answers' has been added as a type :)
Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: teash on Sunday 30 November 2008, 01:17:18 am Yay I just noticed that.... thank you :-)
Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: zenbaba on Monday 01 December 2008, 11:22:06 am Is it possible to get some sort of option that we can select when we have read a competition to mark whether we have entered it?

That's a good idea. Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: psychocat on Monday 01 December 2008, 04:53:15 pm This is a great idea, it will save a lot of typing in the Subject line!!!!
Just one small suggestion, is it OK to put a box for 'All States' in the States section so we don't have to tick 8 boxes. That would be great!!! Also, in the Requirements section, is it OK to add 'Slogan' , 'Refer a Friend' and also 'Recipe'. I also sometimes post some craft competitions that require you to actually send in a piece of artwork so I'm not sure if that could be incorporated as well - thanks!! Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: snuggle1 on Monday 01 December 2008, 04:59:27 pm I found it a little daunting at first.
I was wondering if it could include children's competitions and for less frequent than monthly (i.e. 3 monthly)? Thank you, snuggle1 Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: psychocat on Monday 01 December 2008, 05:11:19 pm Figured it out!
Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: teash on Monday 01 December 2008, 08:29:31 pm I am just wondering if you are aware that at the top of the competition listing there is a nbsp tag :  Closing Date: I am guessing it is coming up because there needs to be a gap in between the p and C...
Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: Administrator on Tuesday 02 December 2008, 12:21:39 am Yes, the options system is up and running!
I do have some errors logged in the background which I'm sorting out but it is working. Quote Is it possible to get some sort of option that we can select when we have read a competition to mark whether we have entered it? This is possible and I've been thinking about doing this.Quote Just one small suggestion, is it OK to put a box for 'All States' in the States section so we don't have to tick 8 boxes. That would be great!!! The problem with the "All States" checkbox is that it would have to be a radio button instead of a checkbox.ie, if you clicked "ALL STATES", all other checkboxes would have to be greyed out so you can't choose "All States" and "NSW". It's just the way I wrote the code, and I can change this later when I figure out how to do the code. Quote I was wondering if it could include children's competitions and for less frequent than monthly (i.e. 3 monthly)? This is for every type of competition, it's not supposed to replace the competition categories we already have - ie: 'People's Choice, Web Comps, Children's comps" ...I can add more options like every 3 months? - yes but where do we stop? - (bi-monthly, every 6 months) Quote Also, in the Requirements section, is it OK to add 'Slogan' and also 'Recipe'... I would have thought that these two are answers. These are all great suggestions and thanks for providing some thought :) As far as adding lots of new checkboxes, we don't want to making it too daunting of a task to enter comps, but, if a new checkbox is really needed and we can't use an existing one, I'll add it. If anybody has any more suggestions please keep them coming. Thanks. :) Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: Administrator on Tuesday 02 December 2008, 04:52:29 pm oops! I noticed an error with the New Competition Options.
The options don't get recorded during the initial post, you need to go back and edit the comp and select the options again. I will try to figure out what is wrong this evening. I'm very sorry about this. Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: psychocat on Friday 05 December 2008, 08:44:27 pm Is it possible to put an 'Instore Entry' option in the Entry method section please? For competitions like this: http://compingclub.com/index.php?topic=99154.msg412246#msg412246
Also in the Requirements section could there be a 'Refer a Friend' option? Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: Quickie on Friday 05 December 2008, 08:47:56 pm it's great admin - just one more tiny step but it's so good having all those options :)

Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: Administrator on Saturday 13 December 2008, 09:30:56 pm We already have 'You need to subscribe to something' which should cover TV, magazines, websites, etc..
Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: bluemoon on Saturday 13 December 2008, 09:35:12 pm no worries, i just thought that option was more for having to subscribe to websites, not TV :)

I'll have to try to figure out how to disable the other checkboxes if All States is selected (if I can). :) Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: kityjaeli on Sunday 21 December 2008, 09:51:58 am just wondering how it is these options work? is this just for when posting comps? i want to be able to mark comps as i enter/read them but cant seem to find out how?

Title: Re: New Competition Options Post by: Major Tom on Saturday 27 December 2008, 10:17:55 pm Just a note to everyone..we had a glitch with the 'All States' box in the options, which has now been corrected, but which has resulted in 'All States' comps now showing as only WA.
We will correct them as we find them so please bear with us, but please don't inundate us with posts to be corrected. Also note that if you have posted the comp yourself, you can correct it by simply clicking on [edit] in the calendar section at the top of your post and changing the options. You cannot correct another person's post, and please do not comment in the posts about the problem, we don't want the scroller filled with identical comments. In the meantime, if you come across a comp that says WA only, please check the Terms and Conditions to varify before entry. Thanks for your time :D |
