These terms and conditions of entry, including how to enter and prize details form part of the Official Rules. Entry into the Contest is deemed to be an acceptance of these Official Rules.

ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to legal residents of Australia who have reached the legal age of majority in their place of residence (and are at least 18) at the beginning of the Contest Period. Employees of Hasbro, Inc. (“Sponsor”), Promotions.com, LLC, and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, promotion and advertising agencies, regardless of where they reside, and persons, whether or not related, living in the same household as such employees, are not eligible to enter or win. Void outside Australia and where prohibited by law. Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws.

HOW TO ENTER: This contest asks participants what they would do with the money in the MONOPOLY game if it were real. Each entry must be submitted in one of the following MONOPOLY-themed Entry Categories: Family and Pets; Health and Physical Enhancement; Giving Back to Charity; Buying a Dream House; Learning About Stuff; Play, Thrills and Sports; Culinary Arts; Business Endeavor; Trips Around the World; Music, Arts, Entertainment; or Other (each, an “Entry Category”). During the Contest Period, visit www.monopoly.com and follow the directions to write an essay of seventy-five (75) words or less that answers the question: “What would you do if the money in the MONOPOLY game were real and it was awarded to you?”, select the appropriate Entry Category, and submit (your essay and entry form are jointly your “Entry”). Your essay should talk about the movers, the characters, the rules, or any other elements of the MONOPOLY game. By entering you agree to comply with Hasbro’s Terms of Use, available at www.hasbro.com/home/terms.html and privacy policy, available at www.hasbro.com/home/privacy.html. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Entry that it determines, in its sole discretion, to be offensive or inappropriate, not in keeping with Sponsor’s public image or the best interests of the MONOPOLY brand, or not to comply with these Official Rules.

By submitting an Entry, you acknowledge and agree that Sponsor will receive many Entries and that your Entry may be similar or identical in theme, idea, format or other respects to other Entries or to other ideas conceived by or provided to Sponsor, and you waive any and all claims you have or may have in the future based on such similarity or identity. Except where prohibited by law, you acknowledge and agree that the Sponsor does not have now, nor shall it have in the future, any direct or indirect duty or liability with respect to the infringement or protection of any copyright in your Entry.

By submitting an Entry you give permission to the Sponsor to post your Entry on www.monopoly.com or other Sponsor websites. Entrants are prohibited from obtaining votes by any fraudulent or inappropriate means, including, without limitation, offering prizes or other inducements to members of the public, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. The seventy-five (75) entrants that receive the highest number of votes will be deemed the finalists and advance to the judging phase. In the event of a tie, a “tie-breaking” judge will determine the finalist based on the “Commitment to the Spirit of the MONOPOLY Brand” judging criterion. Use of script, macro or any automated system to vote or which impairs the integrity of the voting process is prohibited and all such votes will be void. Return of prize or prize notification as undeliverable, failure to sign and return requested documentation within the specified time period, the inability of Sponsor to contact the potential winner within a reasonable time period or noncompliance with these Official Rules by any potential winner will result in disqualification and, at Sponsor’s sole discretion, the prize may be awarded to a runner-up. You agree that the Sponsor and its designees may disqualify the potential winner at any time, in their sole discretion, on the basis of anything contained in or learned or obtained as a result of the submission of winner documentation, Releases or any other forms requested by Sponsor that indicate a breach of these Official Rules.

I've been trying to submit an answer which is pure, clean and inoffensive but their system's rejecting my answer because

"Our scanners picked up an inappropriate word(s) in your post. We’re all for creative language but please keep it clean. Click below to fix your copy."

I'm trying to find a contact email so I can ask them what's wrong with it but can't find an email address.

Can anyone else spot on in their t&c or think of another way of contacting them.

Interesting - that explains why there are so few entries so far!  I've removed innocent (in context) words and phrases like "get some" and still no welcome.  Either they're really strict or there's a problem with their system.

By the way forgot to thank the poster for the great competition.

perhaps look at other entries and see what words they got away with?

methinks they have a problem with their censor

I'm sure it's a dodgy censor but there's absolutely nothing questionable in my entry - I've tried changing nearly every word except probably "and" and "the".

So I'm still wondering if there's any way to contact them.  Thanks so much for any replies.

Taken out every proper name - even Melbourne and Victorians - had to use words like city and country - can't think of another way to write it given they're looking for unique ideas. Tried writing to info@.... and it didn't get bounced back so maybe it'll work.

I found it!!!!! apparently "medical treatment" is my forbidden phrase.

I agree about the voting but at least they'll read the top 75 themselves and make a decision based on creativity, imagination and uniqueness of the story (25%)
Persuasiveness of the story (25%)
Consistency with and embodiment of the spirit of the MONOPOLY brand (by this we mean references to the game pieces, the characters, the rules, or related elements of the MONOPOLY game) (50%)

Good luck with writing your stories.

Methinks so too.  Hope someone here will vote for me after my great effort - must have changed it around a hundred times.  Mine'll be the one about offering my new b&b to people needing shhhh medical treatment shhhh near the city and having the Monopoly prize cover the costs .. when it finally gets posted on the site of course!

... as a matter of interest, which do you think was my obscene word? "medical" or "treatment"?

from memory it just said 48 hours after the judging is finished - we'll just have to wait it out - feeling optimistic?

JUDGING: All eligible finalist Entries will be judged by a panel of Sponsor-appointed judges based on the following criteria: Creativity, Imagination and Uniqueness of the Essay (25%); Persuasiveness of the Essay (25%); and Consistency with and Embodiment of the Spirit of the MONOPOLY Brand (this criterion includes references to the movers, the characters, the rules, or related elements of the MONOPOLY game in the essay) (50%) (“Grand Prize Judging”). The Entry with the highest score will be deemed the potential Grand Prize winner. In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the Entry with the highest score in the “Commitment to the Spirit of the MONOPOLY Brand” criterion. The Grand Prize Judging will take place on [insert date] at [insert address]. Sponsor reserves the right to select fewer than the stated number of finalists or not award the prize if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of qualified Entries that comply with these Official Rules. Prize awards are subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules. This is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the finalists or the Grand Prize winner. Prizes will be delivered to the winners within four (4) weeks of the Grand Prize Judging.

WINNER NOTIFICATION: Judges’ and Sponsor’s decisions are final and binding on all matters relating to this Contest and no correspondence will be entered into. Potential winner will be notified by telephone, mail and/or email within forty eight (48) hours of the Grand Prize Judging and may be required to complete an Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability and Publicity Release (unless prohibited by law) and any other documents required by Sponsor, which must be returned within fourteen (14) days of date appearing on prize notification. You agree that the Sponsor and its designees may disqualify the potential winner at any time, in their sole discretion, on the basis of anything contained in or learned or obtained as a result of the submission of winner documentation, Releases or any other forms requested by Sponsor that indicate a breach of these Official Rules.

yep it said the winner would be notified within 48 hrs of the grand prize judging, but it doesn't actually say when the grand prize judging is.
My understanding is that the grand prize judging and the closing date don't necessarily have to be the same time.

That's right, I was just confirming that the dates aren't on their site - they actually have "[insert date]" where they should have had the correct date in their judging paragraph.  We're just going to have to wait it out.

Just checked on the monopoly site where the latest message is:

The judges are hard at work pouring over the stories you voted into the top 75. Check back in mid-October to find out who wins the grand prize in MONOPOLY Money Makes It Real.

Not sure if the huge thank you to ACC Compers who voted for the members is on here as I may have written it within "the lost posts" of last week.  Thanks once again for your kindness.

I checked all the other countries too and none of them have announced their winners.  Do we think they've told the winner already and are waiting for verification or that they haven't decided yet?

i don't think they've decided yet because the top 75 haven't been announced officially either

I got an email back from the monopoly people, it's all run in the US, so the aussie contact is going to get back to me on expected announcement time, but they said it might be likely thats it's in the end of oct.

Update:

Thank you for your email.

The winner of the competition has been contacted by Hasbro, they need to wait for the legalities to be finalised before the results can be published.

This process could be delayed if any problems occur in which case another person may be nominated the winner instead.

The final results are due to be published early to mid November.

Thought you'd like to know.

C

Here's the winning entry.  They called themself Monopolize on the chart and were ranked 35th in the voting (I was sad enough to copy the entries before they were deleted) - this one was in my top 5 too.

75 years of MONOPOLY, thousands of stories, your votes for 75 finalists for a chance to win a bank of MONOPOLY money in real cash. One winner has been chosen to GO to begin living the MONOPOLY money dream.

A. Tow, Rivett
Story: 20 grand is fab, when Monopoly skills can bank a further grab!! Getting "go"ing fast; in order to gain, and an Old-Kent-style property; I would attain. With this, I'd make a splendid living, so birthdays become a "chance" to be giving! I'd upgrade my house from green to red - when adding extensions and a new bed! Family and dog - happy and humming. Savings - ready for when the taxman is incoming!
