Before reading this new behind-the-scenes expose of Melbourne street art, I was under the embarrassing pretence that the term was coined by gangland youths - a lousy defense employed after being caught vandalising vending machines at Broadmeadows train station (which kinda feels like Parra train station, but smaller, and norther). I mean come on, as if a Pepsi machine needs added artistic integrity when Britney Spears is an ambassador, right?

I had been duped by my own stupidity. There is so much to like about Street/Studio - its lack of pretension, its ability to engage and entertain both first dabblers and veteran fans of the art form, the inclusion of candid conversations with 10 of Melbourne's most prolific street artists including Niels Oeltjen, Miso, Everfresh, Tai Snaith, and Ghostpatrol. These guys have survived the transition from the street to the studio and the gallery scene, with their inspiration and credibility intact.

Then there's the 200 odd photos that leave you in a visual coma - you actually begin to play visual bingo with yourself and have a semi freak out every time you recognise having seen the artwork previously in an alleyway, minus the stench of bin juice.
