Leanne Hall is much more than a girl who tormented me while wearing partial reverse-drag outfits at high school. She is a girl who torments her dog by making it attend her backyard dress-up photoshoots. Just kidding. Well actually that's true but she is also a local genius who won last year's Text Prize for Young Adult & Children's Writing. The resulting book, This Is Shyness, launches tonight at Readings!

Leanne! You have written a book!
Yes, that is correct. I have written a book. Luckily, it is for `young adults' so people won't be too threatened by me at dinner parties.

What is it about?
It's about a boy and a girl, Wolfboy and Wildgirl, who meet in a pub in a suburb called Shyness. Wolfboy is a local, and when he lets slip to Wildgirl that the sun never rises in Shyness she talks him into staying up with her all night and being her guide. They're both running from some pretty serious problems, and it's about the one long, crazy night they spend together trying to escape from their everyday lives. Oh, and it's also about bike gangs, and monkeys, and kebab-selling psychics, and inner-city try-hards, and ukulele solos, and evil psychiatrists that spookily resemble Chuck Norris.

Actually writing something longer than 180 words. How do you do it?
First tell everyone you are going to write a novel...read the rest here
