CLUE 1

When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we packed in our Cube Alpha suitcase:

JR: Most expensive prize yet worth $10,800

I'm leaning towards New York from these pictures, plus is really expensive to visit.

TWO: The number that (usually) comes before three. Square root of four. Also the amount of people it takes to tango.

CLUE #2: When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we stumbled upon a snow capped mountain range...

See how Smarty-Pants' guys go with that one! Oh, and one more thing - we'll be doing something special on Twitter this arvo... get involved if you like luggage!

hmm.. when i was in Vegas, we could see mountains with snow caps in the middle of their summer!
http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/las-vegas-day-trips.php (http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/las-vegas-day-trips.php) Scroll down to Mt. Charleston

American Tourister may well have picked a generic "snow capped mountians" pic for Clue 2

But I used Google Goggles on my phone and it found the image here:

that is, in Austria
nice one jrnitsch!

These comps actually drive me nuts...!  And give me a headache!  Are you actually supposed to be able to figure out what these items are?  Most are discernible, but I can't tell what that C.D. is called, or what that green cardboard tube is.  Sunscreen, maybe???  Zinc cream or something?  Don't know if I can be bothered trying to work them out every day! :?

Berocca and Lady GaGa:  I'm sure the answer will come to you easily now
Thanks Calpot!  I don't know how you figured that out!  You must have better eyes than me!  Much appreciated! :D

A wise person once said "nothing says Friday more than CLUE #3". Yes, that wise person was AT, BUT... we stand by this. Any questions?

CLUE #3 "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we got back to nature with some wildlife spotting..."

never heard of mousse or elk in austria though.  More like canada or the states - we've seen them in new england (near new york) and they certainly get snow in vermont - probably taking you on a wild mousse chase though!
I might be clutching at straws here but the Jägermeister logo, which shows the head of a stag (very much like the picture), and that is a German made product.
To me it quite  looks like a red deer which is found in Europe.

I think it might be a generic mountain shot (just happens that the particular photo is in Austria)

Any chance that it could be Aspen or one of the other "fashion" ski resorts in the American Rockies. The Canadian Rockies are not really high enough.

zertzz, having googled a few hundred photos of red deer, you're probably right and I'm a bit of a plonker for thinking it was a mousse.  Sorry.

Only problem is that that deer are found in lots of countries including UK and USA (just read about a deer farm where they hunt the deer in Maine, New England) and I'm really struggling to find a place in Austria that you'd live the highlife like clue 1 seems to indicate :  hangover medicine, fancy clothes, french perfume, dinner jackets.  Unless it could be Vienna or Salzburg - places I believe James Bond's headed so maybe that's the highlife.

Sorry I'm rambling - hope someone else is quicker at getting this than me.

Suzie Quatro, what a gal... In other news, did you know "quattro" meant four in Italian?

CLUE #4 "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we bumped into some serious obstacles..."

This is a scene from Titanic - so this is obviously referring to icebergs - now I'm really confused!

unless... Titanic was en-route to New York when it hit the iceberg in the Atlantic.

... and off on another tangent there's Iceland:  http://www.godsgeography.com/europe/iceland/iceland.html

Do we have many more clues to go.  I, for one, need help

There are icebergs along the Inside Passage from Vancouver to Alaska if you take a cruise up that way and of course deer everywhere.

do we have to state a specific city or just the country?

3.  red deer?  elk?  http://www.google.com.au/search?q=elk+images&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&ei=mIhkToC8B-WQiAfAofWWCg&sa=X&oi=mode_link&ct=mode&cd=2&ved=0CA4Q_AUoAQ&biw=1679&bih=847#q=elk&hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=48291ecc95b56d1b&biw=1011&bih=854  could be Europe, New England (includes New York) or anywhere

I really have no idea - did think it was in Europe somewhere to begin with - now have no idea. However if you are going on the New York theme - what did cross my (obscure) mind with Bright art
was Art Garfunkel "Bright Eyes".

I am going off this comp.  The clues are not necesarily "clever" meaning it can be hard to link the clue to a location.  What is this last one meant to be?  A party game that is not "pin the tail"?  Blind Man's Buff perhaps??

And what was that light pattern thing meant to be?

Here are some traditional party games for kids but they don't give me any ideas - do they give anyone else any?

Musical Chairs - this classic musical game gets 'em moving!
Pass the Parcel - is this game the most loved of them all?
Musical Clothes - a musical dress up party game.
Pin the Tail on the Donkey - an easily adapted game for any party.
Musical Statues - for a few moments' peace and quiet...
Hunt the Thimble - small children love a mystery - just keep it simple!
Simon Says - a great party listening game.
Kim's Game - memory testing fun!
I Went to the Shops... - and bought... - great circle game.
What's the Time Mr Wolf? - Don't make this one too scary!
Follow the Leader - and use your imagination, too.

This has to be one of the most confusing ones yet, but I'm ready to have a first guess - Alaska - in particular a cruise to Alaska. Here's why.

Clue 1: Dress up and party on board the ship
Clue 2: Snow capped mountains are definitely found in Alaska
Clue 3: I reckon you can see deer/moose/elk/whatever it is in Alaska
Bonus Twitter clue: The highest mountain in Northern America is Mt McKinley in Alaska
Clue 4: Definitely icebergs on an Alaskan cruise
Clue 5: Northern lights?
Clue 6: This is Blind Man's Buff/Bluff but I have no idea how it relates to Alaska

Forgot to add that if it is Alaska - they haven't packed any warm clothes..........

Found this obscure link that claims that Blind Man's Buff is a native Eskimo Inuit game from Alaska.

http://www.ankn.uaf.edu/curriculum/NativeGames/appendicee.html

Also cruises to Alaska only run in the summer season - so although it is not super warm it's not super cold either. I admit that the first clue doesn't seem to have any cold weather clothes and is quite weak for Alaska - but it's pretty weak for anywhere that has "snow-capped mountains" and "icebergs"

The blindfold photo turns up lots of places. I think it's another generic picture (as some sort of clue - as you point out).

For example, http://smartfamilysystem.com/neurodevelopmental_assessment.html (http://smartfamilysystem.com/neurodevelopmental_assessment.html)

Same goes for the Red Deer stag, which can be found here (I think the photo is taken in the UK - but I'm guesing that's meaningless).

I may be drawing a long bow here - but given the company is called "American" Tourister it would make sense that the final trip would be to America - hence this supports the idea it is Alaska (and the price is about right). Hopefully the last clue will be so easy (like the first round) that there will be no doubt where it is.

So, in this latest clue we have "Stricly Ballroom", an Australian film, where the female lead is from a Spanish family. Barcelona perhaps?

Or maybe, the answer is Blackpool, where they hold the world ballroom dancing thingy

This last one is even more confusing - it is a video of "Love is in the Air" from Strictly Ballroom.

The only thing I can think of for this video is Spain because in Strictly Ballroom they mix classic ballroom dancing with Flamenco. But Spain doesn't seem to fit too many of the other clues.

South America perhaps?  Argentina? Chile? Brazil?

Not Brazil because the official language there is Portugese.

Interestingly enough the highest mountain in South America is Aconcagua in Argentina so this could be the "ain't no mountain high enough"

Just bear with me, but i'm thinking New York:
1 Lady Ga Ga was born in New York
2 Deer are known to wander through New York
3 got arty in a bright way, could this mean Empire State Building -red white and blue celebrating William and kate"s wedding
4The snow that New York received in January, does it normally snow this much.
5The Titanic was on the way to New York
6 Nick Ashford died in August New York(ain't no mountain high enough) duo songwriter with simpson

ok going out on a limb here: NEW YORK
if not i give up....

Gosh we spoil you guys...

CLUE #8: "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we followed in the footsteps of ... (the pic)"

JR: The artwork is by Banksy - usually London based.  Rats are not in the Arctic or Antarctic or in ALberta, Canada, but exist everywhere esle on the planet

I am not really getting anywhere much with these clues - having scrolled through 30 odd pages of Banksy rat art to see where his footsteps might have gone, he seems to have gone lots of places - none too useful. America, Canada, London, Palestine, Greece and others.

Had a thought about the Strictly Ballroom clue and had thought that maybe it was pointing to a Catholic country having used terms like "seven deadly sins", "confession" and that it may lead to Sth America or Spain with the Pasa Doble dance. However there is always one clue that doesn't seem to fit.

Will go and have some dinner and think about it some more.

These rat art pictures are drawn by Banksy and are classed as street art.
I typed in on google images 'Street Art New York' and this is what I found!
This street art is located in New York too! Maybe this could be it?

Banksy has been to a lot of different places but some of the more notable ones include:

London, New York, (West Bank, Israel - I doubt the flight is here!), Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California

I really have no idea on this one!

Thinking from another angle:

Can anyone see any clue being totally inconsistent with New York?

The only one that doesn't seem to have any connection whatsoever from my point of view is the kid's party game one.

Yep it's Friday peeps, and we hope you're all dressed to the nines and ready to hit the weekend! Ah yes that reminds us...

CLUE #9: When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we rubbed shoulders with royalty and kicked it with His Majesty...

JR: King John of England

Post by: ross on Friday 09 September 2011, 12:21:04 pm
Not too sure if it being King John makes that much difference - they have tended to just use stock photos (eg Austrian Mountains). So I'm thinking that there is a King (or Prince of Wales) reference in there somewhere. Would suggest Canada over US in that case.

Anyway this hasn't made anything more clear - one more clue I think - let's hope it is not as cryptic.

Curse these clues:

From the Washington Post: "kicking it with royalty"???

"Kate and William kick off Canada, Calif. royal tour - Royal Wedding ."..

Not a "His Majesty" -
But there is always Queens in NY.

NB:  blurb about the movie on Wikipedia says: LOS ANGELES bank employee Carl Allen (Jim Carrey)....  I was hoping it was set in NY.  Aaargggggh

Can't find anything in the Titanic saga to tie Canada in as the answer though other than Nova Scotia. Ship was sent from there to retrieve bodies but the survivors were taken to New York.

Maybe Titanic was a red herring as it refers to the movie capital of USA??

Sandybottoms do you think Titanic is about size (as in the coast line) rather than the actual ship or movie?

CLUE 4  actually says

When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we bumped into some serious obstacles... with the stars of Titanic pictured.

I have no idea what I think.  I'm swinging between NYC, Los Angeles and Vancouver!
Lucky we get 4 guesses.

Just to add fuel to the fire, early in this thread there was talk about Prince William and Kate being the centre of a clue.  Well just saw this: After they wrap up their Canadian tour on Friday, the duke and duchess will head to California for three days.

Mah head is spinning, going to watch TV for a while.  Good luck with it.

Most of the Titanic's victims are buried in Halifax Nova Scotia - but I am not sure this helps any.

I may be wrong but...

CLUE #1 Take note of the charms on the bracelet, glitzy/trashy clothing and the watch (for a place where there are no clocks)

CLUE #3 "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we got back to nature with some WILD LIFE  spotting..."

CLUE #4 "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we bumped into some serious obstacles..." search Titanic exhibition

CLUE #6 "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we P.A.R.T.I.E.D! Of course by this we mean we got involved in some serious kids party games. Pin the tail, pass the parcel and our personal fave..."  Blind Man’s Bluff

Our seventh, not-so-deadly, sin... actually a clue is hardly a SIN is it...?!

CLUE #7 "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we made a confession of our love." Think wedding vows

CLUE #8: "When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we followed in the footsteps of ... (the pic)"  the RAT PACK

CLUE #9: When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we rubbed shoulders with royalty  and kicked it with His Majesty...  King and Queen of

Clue #10 When AT travelled to our final mystery prize destination we said "yes". Relates to clue 7 not Jim Carrey

Lady Gaga is of Italian and more distant French-Canadian ancestry, the Northern Lights appear over northern Canada, Canada is a Commonwealth country (Mabye the reference to the King), Vancouver is known for it's arty districts and was also the host of the Winter Olympic Games.  Anyway doing my head in too, so being a Brisbane girl I'm off to watch the rest of the Broncos V Warriors.  Good luck everyone!  :)

tulip - I think you might have it! Here are how some of the other clues fit into your choice

CLUE #1: What is one of Lady Gaga's first hits?

CLUE #2: Check out what "snow capped mountain range" translates into in different languages

CLUE #5: Definitely looks like bright neon lights to me

CLUE #7: The girl in "Strictly Ballroom" came from a Spanish background - in fact she may have even had a Spanish name!

I think so too!  There is a King Johns Complex there and you find mule dear around that area, also looked at the charms on the bracelet, horshoes and clovers, Lady Gaga is playing there, the rat pack played Vegas a lot, I was thinking about blind man's bluff, Sammy Davis Junior only had one eye (stretching that one), the Titanic Exhibition is there.  All the Wedding Chapels. Brushing shoulders with royalty the suits on the cards.Yep, all fits.!

Pretty poor "logic" if you ask me. The Titanic one was because Celine Dion (who sang the theme) has done a million shows in Vegas - you've got to be kidding me.
